I'm curious as to how the duel engine actually works. Let's say I have two characters who have the same personal combat skill. They start a fight. If I were to repeat that first round a whole bunch, should both characters 'win' about the same number of times? Win as in either killing, injuring, or knocking down the other. Is the combat skill alone what I need to worry about, or are there traits as well?

Also, a couple of little things I've noticed about Imperial Administration. Does Imperial Admin bar you from making de-jure claims on behalf of your vassals? It seemed to be doing that pre the current EMF beta. (Not sure about now.) If so, rather than an issue with the de-jure CB itself, I'm assuming that that was intended. Even if not, I think it's a good idea; it makes a certain amount of sense given how Imperial Admin is described. Second, does whether the Basileus have strong Basileus or not affect how often the vassals make claims for the imperial title? Or does the vassal's opinion of the ruler? Lastly, when the liege has to decide on who gets a duchy (after a viceroy's death), and you decide not to give it to one of the three council-selected vassals rather than the heir, is there some way to make it so that the new vassal doesn't technically usurp the title? It seems odd that the new duchy-holder gets a big "usurped title" penalty with the new vassal merely for being the recipient of the title (this is on top of the title claimant penalty).

Thanks again for the mod. I'm really not sure how you all are able to do half as much as you are, but it makes the game so much better.

Personal combat skill is not the biggest defining factor of a duel. Duels in HIP use a random list to select the winner with the outcomes being weighted based on your traits. So whilst statistically you will get a 50/50 split between who wins a round realistically as it is random you will almost certainly not get that and you will have a winner each time.

Thanks, so when trying to decide whether or not to run away, what should I be considering?
All of your traits and the enemy's traits. All the factors are listed in DuelEngine.4 of emf_nde.txt and there are too many for me to list really. The biggest factors are your warrior traits, martial education, physical strength and intelligence traits and wounds or illness. Personality traits also have an effect but to a lesser extent compared to the others.
