Joachim smiles to himself with satsfaction after reading the correspondence from Livonia

"How nobe of Grand Duke is to send me this friendly letter. Maybe all that accusitions against him are not true. I must hurry Janusz Rokosinski with the investigation.

Meanwile we have to work together in order to restore peace and trade in our lands.

Oh, and this news about his granfathers from Pommerania, trurly interesting...
...[a single thought went through the Joahim's head Maybe that is why that bastard want to take over Pommerania, to bulit a mansion and take care of his granfathers' graves..."]...
...trurly interesting, maybe it would be a good idea to invite him to our Beautiful Pommern's land."

He inhales deeply some clean and refreshing sea air.

"Very well, we shall send THE BROTHERS to Livonia. I hope they'll manage to survive there."

Joachim smiles to himself again, and again with satisfaction.

Joachim turns to the Polish abassador and smiles.

"Oh it good to see a Polish diplomat in our country. Indeed I am happy to see you herr Kwaszniewski...Kwaszniewski? This name sounds familiar somehow."

He smiles to himself. Than he approches Krysztow, takes his hand and shakes it.

"I am pleased to welcome you in my court."

Polish abassador seems to be astonished by Joachims open friendship.

"Don't be surprised herr Kwaszniewski, I am a young knight not an old crock. My father is ill and I have to govern our land, but it doesn't mean I like it. I would prefer to go back to time when I was in Rome. Damn those italian women..."

October 25th Anno Domini 1423 - The trade expedition.

Joachim called Wolfgang Albreht of Danzig, chief of trade affairs in the Duchy.

"Dear Wolfgang, I have thougt about your ideas concerning trade in Pommern. I think it is the time to put this idea to practice. Since our internal affairs are being slowly settled down and peace is comming back to our land *surprise, surprise, now when our relation with the Northern Alliance got better!* I shall sent you with a mission to invite other countries to trade with us, to invite foreign merchants to Stettin. Here is my plan"

They spent hours on discussing the possible steps and routes.

Wolfgang seemd to be quite satisfied.
"Very well my liege. I will seek for proper men and set up the expedition soon."

It took him exactly a week to prepare the expedition.
Some mercenaries to defance. Some pack animals and supplies.
Couple representatives from the court were also included to the party in order to mae it more formal. He was given also some letters.
The party set out on a journey with the rising sun on monday october 25th Anno Domini 1423

"First Stop - Branderburg!" - shouted Wolfgang.

*I hope it will be worth the effort* - thougt Joachim and went back to the castle.

A letter arrives from Bremen.

Noble Joachim Zbigniew Friedrich von Klenau-Kaminski of the Greif, heir to the ducal throne of Pommerania, Regent and Protector of the Country.

I have received your letter, and thank you for your good wishes.
My father, to whom the letter was adressed, is currently in Bavaria, discussing what actions to take concerning Gelre with his allies.
As acting duke, it is not within my powers to send ambassadors to foreign realms, but I can invite ambassadors to Bremen.

Good sir, Bremen would be most delighted to have an ambassador from the duchy of Pommern in our court.
You mentioned trade in your letter, and I can inform you that trade on the north sea and in the baltic is a very high concern for my father.
As soon as he has time from this problem with Gelre, I am sure he will explain more to it about his plans for the future of trade.

By his own hand in Bremen
Johann Küster, son of Johann II

A message from the Koelner Cardinal arrives.

Dear Herr Friedrich,
Although I can not speak directly for the nation of Cologne - I am only the Cardinal of the Holy City - I can say fairly surly that your letter will be accepted by the new Archbishop, Augustus von Blommenstein, as soon as he arrives in the city. (I just recieved word a few minutes before I sat to write this letter as a matter of fact.)
As soon as the Prince-Archbishop has arrived and recovered from the undoubtable period of mourning to come (he was good friends with the late von Moers), I am sure he will appoint an ambassador to your nation - I lack the ability to do such things.

- Cardinal Adolph Dietmar

Noble Joachim Zbigniew Friedrich von Klenau-Kaminski.
Your support for our cause is most heartwarming and rest assure
that we trust you, you have been under threat by the Livonians and has experienced the same thing as ourselves.

We trust you to conduct a fair investigation, and ask you to start as soon as possible. However we fear that the high ranks of the empire are involved as they refuse to aid France.

They do not see the dangeour of the federation whom surrounds most of Europe now, one madman is all it takes to bring europe into an age of chaos and wars all over, and be as weakend as it was when Genghis Kahn overruned most of Europe.

It is very dangerous world we live in, and they do not understand that hte federationary power needs to be broken.

Chancellor of Brandenburg, Rothard Tegen, meets with Wolfgang of Danzig, representing the Regent of Pommern.

"Good sir, I thank you on behalf of the Elector for the wondrous gift of fine salt. It shall be much appreciated when the Elector and the Duchess return to Berlin.

"Your proposal has been taken up by the Hofrat. In light of the recent troubles suffered by Pommern, and by the Elector's staunch and unwavering defense of the rights of your family to rule in Pommern, we are willing to arrange for trade with merchants of Pommern on very favorable terms, exempting products of Pommern from some of the usual taxes.

"I pray you return to your lord of Pommern some small trinkets of favor between our lands."

The Chancellor presents Wolfgang of Danzig with some small pieces of fine worked silver suitable for brooches and other small pieces of jewelry.

A ship from Bremen arrives in the harbour nearest the Pommern capital, and a man makes way towards the ducal palace.

As he enters, he shows his credentials to the guards, and is brought before the duke.

He bows and starts speaking.

"Joachim Zbigniew Friedrich von Klenau-Kaminski of the Greif, heir to the ducal throne of Pommerania, Regent and Protector of the Country.
I bring mine and Bremens best wishes for your fathers health, and for the relations between our nations.
I bring the best wishes and thanks from Bert Stahl, commander of the Bremer Army and coordinator of the Imperial Forces, for the support of Pommerian forces in crushing the rebellion in Hungary.

My name is Adolf Mannheim, and I will, with your permission, act as Bremer ambassador to Pommern.
My first act will be to present the following charter. It is my dukes hope that Pommern will be among the first nations to sign this agreement, thus beginning a new era of commerce and cooperation for the mechants of the North Sea and the Baltic.

I am offcourse willing to discuss tghe finer points before Your Highness decides whether or not to sign the agreement."

With these words Adolf Mannhein presents a paper to the duke.

Charter for the Hansa Trade Union.

The goal of the Hansa Trade Union

-The Hansa Trade Unions goal is to ease trade and increase profit earned by trade for all merchants from member nations on the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.

-The Hansa Trade Union is not a military union. All members are allowed to join military unions without the approval of the Hansa Trade Union Council, should they so wish.

The Hansa Trade Union Council

-The Hansa Trade Union will have its seat in the city of Bremen. All members of the Trade Union will send one ambassador to the Hansa Trade Union Council.

-The Hansa Trade Union will not be lead by Bremen, but will in all matters follow the course chosen by the Hansa Trade Union Council. The Duke of Bremen will act as chairman at the Councils meetings.

-In the Hansa Trade Union Councils meetings, each member-nation will have one vote.

-The Hansa Trade Union Council will decide the outcome of any vote, except changing this charter, by simple majority of the given votes. In case of a tie, the Duke of Bremen determines the Hansa Trade Union Councils decision.

-This charter may only be changed by a vote in the Hansa Trade Union Council, in which all votes are cast for the change.

-The Duke of Bremen will be the only negotiator for the Hansa Trade Union, unless he appoints another.
No agrement or treaty is valid unless approved by the Hansa Trade Union Council by a vote, following the guidelines laid down in this document.

Membership of the Hansa Trade Union

-No member of the Trade Union may declare war upon another member.

-Should members of the Trade Union as a result of alliances end up in war, all warring members will be suspended from the Trade Unions meetings for the duration of the hostile actions.

-Should a member wish to leave the Trade Union, that member may do so withour fear, simply by declaring so to the Hansa Trade Union Council.

-The Hansa Trade Union Council may expel a nation from the Hansa Trade Union, providing all members of the Council excluding the one represanting the nation in question votes in favor of expelsion.

-To be accepted as a member of the Union, a nation must fullfill the following criteria:
  • The nation in question must have a port to the North Sea or the Baltic Sea.
  • The nations must be invited to join by the duke of Bremen.
  • The nations must be accepted as member by all current members of the Union.
  • The nation must accept this charter.

Obligations and rights of Hansa Trade Union members

-Members must obey the following rules:
  • No member of the Union may ever ban merchants from other members of the Hansa Trade Union from trading within their realms, nor may Hansa members place tolls or tariffs on merchants from another Hansa member.
  • All merchants owing alligence to a ruler, whose nation is a member of the Hansa Trade Union, will agree not to lower their prices below minimum prices agreed on by the Hansa Trade Union. These minimum prices can only be regulated be the Hansa Trade Union Council.
  • Should any nation place a trade embargo on a member of the Hansa Trade Union, all members of the Hansa Trade Union will in return place trade embargoes on that nation, lasting untill said nation lifts the trade embargo.
  • Should any nation declare war upon a member of the Hansa Trade Union, all members of the Hansa Trade Union will in return place trade embargoes on that nation, lasting untill said nation ends the hostile actions against the Hansa member.
  • Should any nation place tolls or tariffs on merchants from a member of the Hansa Trade Union, all members of the Hansa Trade Union will in return impose tolls and tariffs of equal magnitude upon merchants from said nation, untill said nation lifts its tolls and tariffs.
  • Members are bound to follow any agreements and treaties signed by the Hansa Trade Union Council, even is a member nation was not part of the Hansa Trade Union when said treaty was signed or agreement made.
  • Should any member of the Hansa Trade Union not follow the guidelines laid down in this document, said member would be excluded by the Council after having exactly one month to correct the issue, counted from the day the member was made aware of the breach of rules, and all members of the Union would ban said nations merchants from their territories for a full year, starting the exact day of the nation leaving the Hansa Trade Union.
After this period, the nation can rejoin the Hansa Trade Union, should it so wish, if said nation fullfills the criteria listed above, including full agrements of the member nations and invitation from the Duke of Bremen.

"Good sir.
I know your nation is in a state of war against the rebels in Hungary.
I am aware that this have taken much of your time recently, and this is understandable.

However, I would like to once more bring your attention to this paper."

And the Bremer ambassador once more points to the Treaty of the Hansa Trade Union he has brought the Pommernarian duke.

The Bremer ambassador speaks to the duke of Pommern

"Thank you for your ambassadors kind words.

I cannot claim all honour for this victory, for what good will it do to raise the Imperial Banner if no armies followed?
Our thanks should go to God and to those whom He wanted to join the cause.

Bremen don't think any less of Pommern because her soldiers were delayed on their way to the battlefield. Pommern has joined the Imperial cause, which is more than you can say of many other nations.

By all means take the time necessary to think the treaty through before joining the Hansa Trade Union.
I do think that signing the treaty would be the best action for both Pommern and Bremen, and I know that duke Johann II would be pleased to welcome Pommern as a member."

EVENT

Pommern soldiers due to lack of orders and their commanders inactivity and general passiveness, did not participate in ANY battle in Hungry. They are upset, hungry and poor.
They are still on the Hungarian soil and are poorly lead and demoralised.

The Commanders wake up each morning to a few less troops than the night before. The ex- Soldiers start to pillage villages and towns in order to get some fast money without even facing the enemy in battle. Besides. Women and children are fun to "play" with.

The younger commanders are suppressed by the older, and not allowed to try to stop them due to bigotry and ignorance in their superiors.

1. Soldiers pillaging and having good fun abound in this fallen land. Pommern army deserters recruit other Rogues, who stay on when order is restored. Without discovery.( +1 land mil and +1 morale for 6 months (2 turns))

2. A "hero" Knight commander steps forward and saves the day. Order is restored and the Pommern reputation is saved. They are seen to be peace keepers and Policemen. (+1 morale for 6 months)

3. The order is restored. Your average army.

4. The order is restored but the rumour about Pommerns soldiers spoils the name of the pommern Army.

5. The order is not restored. The land is full of small bands of Pommerns Rogues. (-1 morale for 6 months )

6. Soldiers are pillaging and having good fun. Pommern army deserts. (-1 land mil and -1 morale for 6 months)

A 2 is rolled.

A "hero" Knight commander steps forward and saves the day. Order is restored and the Pommern reputation is saved. They are seen to be peace keepers and Policemen.

(+1 morale for 6 months to Pommern) ends begining of April 1425

Adolf Mannheim steps forward and hands a letter to the Pommerian duke:

Honourable Joachim Zbigniew Friedrich von Klenau-Kaminski of the Greif, heir to the ducal throne of Pommerania, Regent and Protector of the Pommerania.

In these times, I am sure you understand the trouble I feel when my ambassador reports of intense meetings between Pommern and the Northern Alliance.

Bremen have no trouble with the Northen Alliance, but it seems Livonia at least have trouble with Bremen.

It is a well known fact that if Livonian soldiers are to attack Bremen, they have to secure military access through Pommern.
I will not even ask for such rights to be granted Bremen, as I have no intensions of sending Bremer soldiers on the march against Livonia. However, as Pommern have offered to meditate between the Northern Alliance and the Liga von Nurnberg, I ask that Pommern will not compromise her neutrality by granting Livonia or any other member of the Northern Alliance right of passage through her lands, and also abstains from granting any member of the Liga von Nurnberg such rights.

By his own hand
Johann II
Duke of Bremen
