Dreaming of Stellaris

I'm pretty hyped for it, and don't have much interest in playing other games right now. I look at my Steam library, dabble in something and then go "meh, not Stellaris".
But at the same time, I'm expecting issues both minor and more significant, and some balancing problems. It will be a very good game on release, and I fearlessly predict a fantastic game after a year/18 months with some solid DLCs and balancing changes baked in.
I have a lot of faith in the Paradox design and dev team, it's just such a big, bold game that overlooking some things and a few missteps are to be expected. Hopefully forumites won't freak out too much when everything isn't perfect, or their pet feature isn't implemented how they envisioned it (I mean, some people will freak out regardless).
In any case, I'll have a blast playing it right after release (although since it's my wife's birthday the next day she'll be a little annoyed...).

I went through some special training to resist stuff like hype. For example, when watching Hard Henry, I was like "i've seen stuff like that before, I've been trained to do stuff like that, and oh Parkour, that looks pretty good, did they get some motion capture for that".
So when I saw the reviews of it first and they were like "oh, it's nauseating, oh it's shocking, oh it's violent" and my reaction later is "what are they talking about". Playing Alien vs Predator 2 was more nauseating since I used the pounce from upside down anchor as an alien to kill marines that were motion scanning me in multi (playing as facehugger was the worst in vents), albeit it can get pretty bad if you tried to focus in one something for Hard henry movie.

The flipside being that Paradox does have a reputation for doing exactly that, whereas Creative Assembly has a reputation for releasing "more stuff" DLCs.

Wow, so like "Hype Resistance Master Elite"? I've only taken "Hype Resistance 101". Care to tell me where I can take the same training as you?
Never been so hyped, never had so many hopes for a game. I'm counting every minute of every single day. I only hope not to have too high expectations.
About Rome 2...well it is not so bad now, after many many patches and adjustments, but yes, all in all it was a sore disappointment.

I too am on the train, I dreamed about it even!
I bought 4 copies for friends, so yeah I also hope it is as good as I think it will be.
When may 9th comes I will be literally locked in my room, only leaving for necessities.

I do my research on what I'm interested in. Martial arts forums and yahoo answers are pretty much the same thing and I often write more things there than here.
You believe in an inaccurate analysis due to not having a baseline on me, since you can only compare posts here. Having a baseline on a subject for interrogation is very important, and as for training, you can start with that one. I hear the Israeli interrogators are known to be pretty good and professional at it, better than our TSA at least.

Ditto. And I'm working on two more.I persuaded 3 people to pre-order the game. It had better be good or they'll give me no end of it.
Who says that my original baseless statement wasn't just an interrogation technique?
Naturally the Israeli interrogators are better they the TSA - they actually exist to prevent hostile elements from entering the country. The TSA only exists to provide an illusion of security. But anyway, we're getting pretty off-topic now.

For myself, the biggest draw of this game is seeing just how much it takes from other science fiction games, writings, movies, and more. It's like the perfect merger of great ideas from great, or at least massively successful, science fiction art. Dune, Starship Troopers, Warhammer 40k, anything by Asimov, The Uplift War, Hyperion, Battletech, Star Wars, Star Trek, EVE Online.. I can find elements from each of those settings in this game, without having to spend a lick of time interpreting what exists as having come from those great works.
As a side note, how are so many of you rocking Stellaris avatars? I keep checking my avatar list and I am not seeing the option to be a glorious alien leezurd yet. Is it a pre-order special?

I still don't see what's so great about Warhammer 40k. Having never gotten into table top gaming, the lore just seems like space fascism x sparta over 9000 x crusades. Not exactly the most original premise out there.
Honestly, the table top game is ass anymore. However, the depth of the setting, especially if you get into the lore, the books, and the details which are not relevant to the minis game, are interesting. I wouldn't call any of it genre changing/defining, but I've always appreciated the apocalyptic nature of the setting and the heroism that comes out of otherwise terrible and despotic conditions.
Warhammer 40k definitely falls more into the "at least massively successful" statement I made. The connection Stellaris has to 40k (in my perception) is the Despotic Hegemony government. It's exactly how the Imperium of Mankind deals with its subjects. They're just cogs in a great machine, and they're very, very renewable, so why even worry about their individual worth? It's so terribly brutal, and yet, it is the mentality necessary for the survival of mankind within that universe.
Yeah, you have to preorder, then sign out and back in to enable the stellaris avatars.
It is 2:08am as I'm writing this and I'm getting writer's block trying to write about the evolution of a society of peaceful and friendly spiders that enslave tasty sentient aliens for food. I guess that says quite a bit about my levels of hype.

That's not my place to determine, of course. If people ask me if I like chocolate or vanilla Ice Cream, I have to respond with "I like vanilla".
Paradox has got to be worried that their hype train might end up crashing like Sword of the Stars 2. Although that wasn't entirely Paradox's fault, since they only funded it, they did not develop it using their own coders. They were "hands off" so to speak. It was like, hey, SOTS1 one was great, we trust they'll do just as good, if not better a job with 2. Well... that's not always true when the hype train goes to the moon and then collapse backwards.
Which is, of course, why I don't get on hype trains. I'd rather walk. I like to watch if two trains will crash into each other or if they will miss though. I think the last game I received a hype wound on was.... Never Winter Nights 2 ,I think. I was expecting Planescape Torment... yea, did not know what was going on in the industry there. 3d camera !
