Ok, I started a game of CORE with Italy. Besides Albania which I quickly annexed, anyone else I dow leads to Allied intervention in short order. Admittedly I've only tried Yugoslavia and Egypt but I was wondering is there any country I can beat that won't bring this response?

I don't believe so. Your best bet is to sit tight until Germany begins WWII proper, while building up your armed forces. Once the big fight begins, grab what you can.

Don't join Germany. The allies seem much less interested in you when they are fighting Germany, so you can get away with some DOWs that wouldn't be tolreated in peace time.

Actually they dowed me for invading Yugo months before they dowed Germany. And I waited until after Germany hit Poland. But it worked out ok, they eventually dowed Germany, I joined the Axis and get a fair amount of tech from swapping with all my allies. Turns out that once I got MA through Spain and took Gibraltar the Allies aren't that much trouble. Except for the old Belgian provinces, those jungle terrains take forever to launch one attack.

Go for the two (or more) spanish states as soon as the war starts, while they are fighting nobody will stop you (and you get to attack gibraltar from two directions later). Before joining germany you can annex vichy, again nobody will interfere (although you will be regarded as a bad boy), best would be to take the indochina provinces too, there is some rubber and a great base to attack the netherlands provinces, australia and singapoore - no more resource problems (you can build up a huge industry this way). Don't join the pact with japan though, you'll loose all those provinces then (or edit the scripts or your game file later).
h

Edit: By starting the wars in spain and albania you might rise the allies (it seems especially the french) war entry. In my last game france dowed germany in '36, leaving the alliance, poland joined in the fun and declared war on germany too. There was vichy soon (still '36), even before japan had changed it's gouvernment, so I could snatch it all. My italian empire grew extremely powerful, the allies where overwhelmed relatively easily. The germans could take care of the russians, in the early 40's there's only the usa and some south american allies to take care of (and a few provinces of russia still fighting germany). The world is painted in green with a grey blob in northern europe. I still have to finish that game... It will be interesting to fight the germans in the end, less than total world domination is not acceptable for the new rome :D .

Edit2: I forgot china, nobody will hate you for finishing what the japanese fail at...

Wouldn't you get high dissent levels from DoW on Nationalist Spain?
If you are at war with both Spains, then the dissent would be even worse. How do you deal with this?

He's fascist. The dissent would be negligable.

Fascist declaring Dow on another Fascist is 20% dissent - hardly negligible. But rate is reduced for Italy (which I had missed previously) - so only 4% for Italy declaring on Nat Spain + 2% (democratic) for Republican Spain, so 6% in total. Not nothing but quite bearable.

Do as me, I always (when playing as a big nation) conquer and annex Cuba and the countries between Mexico and the province Colón. If you are playing German or Italian this help you conquer USA pretty easy cuz your supplies will come from Cuba or Central Amerika. Oh yeah, if you declare war on Cuba ,or the other countries in Amerika, then USA will help them by joining the war against you...dont worry, as soon as you annex the country you attack just make peace with USA, they will accept the peace, they have never said no when I play

Edit: Ohhh yeah, you need like 20-30 divisions to conquer Cuba or the others cuz of the logistic distances and bring all Battleships you got to so you can bombard the enemy wich makes it easier to win the battle
