This may be a bug, but I find this interesting enough to post it here. I am playing Cleves in the AGCEEP beta and using the 7 February patch. Now the following events took place:

name = "September 5, 1451 : Cleves entered a Military Alliance with Austria, Hungary, Styria and Tyrol."
name = "September 5, 1451 : Cleves joined the war on the same side as Austria, Styria and Tyrol in their war against "
name = "Palatinate."
name = "September 5, 1451 : Cleves joined the war on the same side as Hungary, Austria, Tyrol and Styria in their war "
name = "against Albania, Ottoman Empire, Crimea and Ak Koyunlu."
name = "February 1, 1454 : A White Peace was signed between Palatinate and Hungary."

The war is going well against the Palatinate when another war erupts.

name = "May 16, 1454 : Hungary declared war upon Bosnia."
name = "May 16, 1454 : Austria joined the war on the same side as Hungary in their war against Bosnia."
name = "May 16, 1454 : Styria joined the war on the same side as Hungary and Austria in their war against Bosnia."
name = "May 16, 1454 : Tyrol dishonored your Military Alliance."
name = "May 17, 1454 : Cleves joined the war on the same side as Hungary, Austria and Styria in their war against Bosnia."

However a few months later the alliance falls apart:

name = "October 1, 1454 : The people of Bavaria declared independence from Hungary."
name = "October 1, 1454 : Bavaria declared war upon Hungary."
name = "October 1, 1454 : Austria dishonored your Military Alliance."
name = "October 1, 1454 : Styria dishonored your Military Alliance."
name = "October 2, 1454 : Cleves joined the war on the same side as Hungary in their war against Bavaria."

Austria is invited back into the alliance:

name = "November 19, 1454 : Austria entered a Military Alliance with Hungary and Cleves."
name = "November 19, 1454 : Austria joined the war on the same side as Hungary and Cleves in their war against Bavaria."

name = "April 12, 1455 : Palatinate accepted our generous peace offer."
I got Pfalz, Baden and Alsace plus 175 ducats from them.

After them I dealt with Bavaria:

name = "February 2, 1456 : We captured the province of Bayern from Bavaria"
name = "February 2, 1456 : Bavaria accepted our generous peace offer."
name = "February 2, 1456 : Bavaria are now our vassals."

Bavaria was still at war with Hungary and Austria resulting in their annexation:
name = "June 18, 1456 : Bavaria accepted peace with Hungary on the following terms : Full Annexation of Bavaria by Hungary"

After two years of peace the next war breaks out:

name = "August 29, 1458 : Bohemia broke the Royal Marriage she had with Hungary."
name = "August 29, 1458 : Bohemia declared war upon Hungary."
name = "August 29, 1458 : Bremen joined the war on the same side as Bohemia in their war against Hungary."
name = "August 29, 1458 : Holstein joined the war on the same side as Bohemia and Bremen in their war against Hungary."
name = "August 29, 1458 : Poland joined the war on the same side as Bohemia, Bremen and Holstein in their war against "
name = "Hungary."
name = "August 29, 1458 : Poland broke the Royal Marriage she had with Hungary."
name = "August 29, 1458 : Austria joined the war on the same side as Hungary in their war against Bohemia, Bremen, "
name = "Holstein and Poland."
name = "August 29, 1458 : Austria broke the Royal Marriage she had with Bohemia."
name = "August 29, 1458 : Austria broke the Royal Marriage she had with Poland."
name = "September 19, 1458 : Cleves joined the war on the same side as Hungary and Austria in their war against Bohemia, Bremen, Holstein and Poland."

Now things are starting to get really messy:
name = "March 6, 1459 : Wirtemberg declared war upon Hungary."
name = "March 6, 1459 : Brandenburg joined the war on the same side as Wirtemberg in their war against Hungary."
name = "March 6, 1459 : Bayreuth joined the war on the same side as Wirtemberg and Brandenburg in their war against "
name = "Hungary."
name = "March 6, 1459 : Palatinate joined the war on the same side as Wirtemberg, Brandenburg and Bayreuth in their war "
name = "against Hungary."
name = "March 6, 1459 : Austria dishonored your Military Alliance."
name = "March 10, 1459 : We have dishonored our Military Alliance with Hungary."
name = "March 10, 1459 : Austria entered our Military Alliance."
With Austria dishonoring the alliance, my peace treaty with the Palatinate still active and me facing over 50k of forces at my borders versus 20k cavalry of mine, half of which are tied up fighting Bohemia and their allies, I decided that it was enough for me. My relations with Austria are excellent +190, so I used them to get them in an alliance of my own.

name = "May 27, 1459 : Gelderland entered a Military Alliance with Hungary."
name = "May 27, 1459 : Gelderland joined the war on the same side as Hungary, Austria and Cleves in their war against Bohemia, Bremen, Holstein and Poland."
name = "May 27, 1459 : Gelderland joined the war on the same side as Hungary in their war against Wirtemberg, Brandenburg, Bayreuth and Palatinate."

Now Austria decides that it is time to backstab Hungary:

name = "June 16, 1460 : Austria broke the Royal Marriage she had with Hungary."
name = "June 16, 1460 : Austria declared war upon Hungary."
name = "June 16, 1460 : Gelderland joined the war on the same side as Hungary in their war against Austria."
name = "June 20, 1460 : Cleves joined the war on the same side as Austria in their war against Hungary and Gelderland."

Hungary ends its war with Wirtemberg:
name = "July 14, 1460 : Wirtemberg accepted peace with Hungary on the following terms : Wirtemberg pays 44$ indemnities. "

Now I am stuck in a really weird situation. According to my diplomatic screen I am involved in a war with Gelderland on my side, but I am now also involved in a war against Gelderland   . This seems to have some strange consequences. Gelderland's forces are marching through my territory, but my provinces do not get looted and my forces won't engage them. However I am able to lay siege to their province. Overall this is one of the weirdest things I have seen sofar in the two years I have been playing the game.

Again some weird shifting allegiances   ;) .

name = "October 7, 1468 : Tyrol entered a Military Alliance with Burgundy, France and Eire."

My Austrian allies do something extremely stupid:
name = "March 15, 1471 : Austria declared war upon Tyrol."
name = "March 15, 1471 : Bohemia joined the war on the same side as Austria in their war against Tyrol."
name = "March 15, 1471 : Bremen joined the war on the same side as Austria and Bohemia in their war against Tyrol."
name = "March 15, 1471 : Burgundy joined the war on the same side as Tyrol in their war against Austria, Bohemia and Bremen."
name = "March 15, 1471 : France joined the war on the same side as Tyrol and Burgundy in their war against Austria, Bohemia and Bremen."
name = "March 15, 1471 : Eire joined the war on the same side as Tyrol, Burgundy and France in their war against Austria, Bohemia and Bremen."
name = "March 16, 1471 : Cleves joined the war on the same side as Austria, Bohemia and Bremen in their war against Tyrol, Burgundy, France and Eire."

I get to bear the brunt of the French-Burgundian onslaught with ten thousands of soldiers crossing the Rhine, my main force is located in Erz and a quick strike is made for a heavily defended Tyrol, containing a medium fortress. The Tiroler army is luckily busy at the time getting routed by the Austrian-Bohemian forces in Steiermark. The survivers flee back to Tyrol and are dealt with by my own forces. Allied forces arrive shortly afterwards and the siege can begin. My general Johan I. has a siege bonus, so the siege progresses quite well despite the vast fortifications.
In the meanwhile the French and Burgundians plunder the Rhine valley and in a few months Münster and Baden fall. A french army lands in Bremen takes the capital and promptly annexes them.
Finally on the 19th of June 1472 Tyrol is fully under my control and I demand their vassalization, which they promptly accept. The control of Munster and Baden is ceeded back to me.
With Cleves now out of the war the French-Burgundian alliance directs all its force against the Austrians and Bohemians. Over the next three and a half years nearly all of Austria and Bohemia fall. The austrians however manage to bribe their way out with a payment of 184 ducats to Tyrol.

The spring of 1476 sees another interesting chain of events:
name = "April 17, 1476 : Burgundy declared war upon Hungary."
name = "April 17, 1476 : France dishonored a Military Alliance she had with Burgundy, Eire and Meißen."
name = "April 17, 1476 : Eire dishonored a Military Alliance she had with Burgundy and Meißen."
name = "April 17, 1476 : Meißen dishonored a Military Alliance she had with Burgundy."
name = "April 23, 1476 : Tyrol joined our Military Alliance with Austria and Bohemia"
name = "May 2, 1476 : France entered a Military Alliance with Denmark, Sweden and Hanover."
name = "May 2, 1476 : France joined the war on the same side as Sweden, Denmark, Hanover and Cologne in their war against Novgorod."
name = "June 4, 1476 : Burgundy went with Marry Maximilian of Hapsburg in The Marriage of Mary of Burgundy. "
name = "June 4, 1476 : The people of Friesland declared independence from Burgundy."
name = "June 4, 1476 : Friesland became Vassals of Burgundy."
name = "June 4, 1476 : Austria had The Habsburg Inheritance of Burgundy . "
name = "June 4, 1476 : Burgundy entered a Royal Marriage with Austria."
name = "June 4, 1476 : Burgundy became Vassals of Austria."
name = "June 4, 1476 : Burgundy broke the Royal Marriage she had with Savoy."
name = "June 4, 1476 : Burgundy entered a Military Alliance with Cleves, Austria, Bohemia and Tyrol."
name = "June 4, 1476 : France went with Claim Artois, Flanders and Franche Comté in Austria inherits Burgundy. "
name = "June 4, 1476 : France declared war upon Burgundy."
name = "June 4, 1476 : Denmark joined the war on the same side as France in their war against Burgundy."
name = "June 4, 1476 : Sweden dishonored a Military Alliance she had with Denmark, Hanover and France."
name = "June 4, 1476 : Hanover dishonored a Military Alliance she had with Denmark and France."
name = "June 4, 1476 : Austria joined the war on the same side as Burgundy in their war against France and Denmark."
name = "June 4, 1476 : Bohemia joined the war on the same side as Burgundy and Austria in their war against France and Denmark."
name = "June 4, 1476 : Tyrol joined the war on the same side as Burgundy, Austria and Bohemia in their war against France and Denmark."
name = "June 7, 1476 : We have dishonored our Military Alliance with Austria, Bohemia, Tyrol and Burgundy."

Since I still have peace treaty active with the french from the last war, I decide not to honor the alliance. I find it rather amusing that only a few months after having fought a major war with Austria, the Burgundians suddenly become Austria's vassals and allies and then get attacked by their former french allies.

Not so weird that it seems : the french are upset at the "treason" of Burgundy. And alliances could shift rapidly in true history (see Japan & Italy between WWI & WWII)

Besides, it happens really often, especially in troubled times... And I recall fighting Austria as France in three separate alliances (and the Habsburg also shifted alliance twice, and were allied with half of Europe against the other half   ).

No, see Italy allied to Austria-Hungary just before WWI and entering the war against them.

Basically, if I understand correctly, when your troops and an AI's troops are both allied fighting an enemy, AND fighting each other, your troops don't fight each other but can still siege each other's provinces.

Not exactly a bug, just a very rare situation, which gives a very intersting war.

Or you could just look at the thirty years war which is actually in the games era ;) Most german states managed to switch sides atleast twice during that war...

Exactly, what I meant, unfortunately the situation prevailed for only a few months after I made peace with Bremen. Promptly fighting between Gelderland's and my troops broke out.

Speaking about the 30 years war, the game situation I got into, does resemble the first years of the 30 years war for the Netherlands. When the war broke out in 1618, dutch forces were commited on the protestant side in Germany. The Netherlands however had still a truce with Spain till the end of 1621, so when Dutch and Spanish forces encountered each other both sides carefully avoided engaging each other.

It isn't - except by event ;).
But I don't remember any event by which Poland and Russia ally, less with Danemark on top of it. I'm wrong ?
