Playing as Germany, 1.03, I waited till '44 before I declared war on the Soviets, after creating a very solid alliance--one specifically which included a Finland beaten by the Soviets, but not destroyed, in the Winter War. Incidentally, the Soviets were at war with the Allies (I have no idea why, I only noticed it apparently some time after the DoWs were exchanged), and of course Germany was at war, too; this could conceivably be part of the problem, is why I mention it. (Interestingly, the Unholy Alliance had been offered--first time THAT happened, but I refused it; again, I only mention it since this may have something to do with the triggering mechanism.)
Latterday Barbarossa worked as usual for the first two weeks of fighting, then, suddenly, several army groups disappeared; for a moment I thought--somehow, though it shouldn't have been possible given the force layouts and time involved--the Soviets had encircled and destroyed them. Turns out it wasn't.
I looked at the game log, and the last entries were the notifications of the "Let us end this senseless fighting" choices for the Finnish Winter War events. And a quick look at the diplomatic map confirms my suspicion: I am no longer at war with the Soviet Union. I guess the Finnish peaceniks hold great sway in Berlin.
So why (how, even) is Finland given the option to end my war? I hope this isn't working as designed, and that this is the dirty bug it smells like.
I guess the quick fix is to not ally with Finland.
