However, none of these are events that 'make history'..

Well, I'd say thats because they covered all the major events at least some and mods can do the rest so...

I agree, Doomsday seems to be a surprisingly rushed and sloppy production.

Perhaps, but it does seem to offer more in the way of gameplay and game engine enhancements than the garden-variety "expansion packs" that are put out for just about every game. And for the approximate price of just about every expansion pack I've seen.

To me, that makes it a good value. I expected it to need some patching - every Paradox game does. And as for the events, they are fully moddable and I think the community will do quite well in fleshing out the "cold war" ones.

I would rather have this enhanced game engine out and available for modding now than to wait a year or some such for a "perfect" release.

I hope, that if germany ever loses a 36 campaign (and i won't let that happen), the doomsday war breaks out. of course, the game might have been different in the meantime, however, i expect a certain certainty that some thing WILL happen, which makes the game worth it. The intel screen is nice, but it is not worth it to be honest. All the spies and that, it is used to keep you occupied in peacetimes. I miss my standard screen i would wathc every 15 minutes where the naval/air/land forces are listed and compared to other countries. Now i only see myself in there. I can only guesstimate how large enemy forces are.

That adds realism, but not fun, only despair on my behalf. I had my german 10 carrier group around britain to hunt them down, being sure that 10 spies were correct in assuming they only had 3 bombers. it turned out that they had 8 navalbombers (they were british, no loan!!), which were not mentioned (do they count as bombers? i woudl count them as bombers), and they sank 1 carrier of mine. This made me mad and reload. I see the realism, but the fun which comes with it always includes a big load of despair and pain.
