Conclusion : Doomsday isn't worth much. It's just a patch-level job of HOI 2. ( I think many gamers wouldn't have any question even if DD came out as a new patch of HOI 2. ) Do you really want my credit card, Paradox?? Then do more job.

1 : Stand-alone product. Have you ever thought why Paradox launched this title as a stand-alone version? Because pure portion of DD from HOI 2 are so small. Why must we pay our hard-earned money to get this 10mb files? Do you want to pay if Microsoft launched their 20mb security patch as a essencial expansion pack?

2 : Ok. Even 1kb file could be worty of purchase if it could play very critical function of whole product. Let's think about this. Almost whole improvements of DD had been discuss in forum even since HOI 1 as wishlist for HOI 2. So... why didn't Paradox add this few improvements to HOI 2 before she launched HOI 2? Schedule problem????? Don't make me laugh.

3 : Do you think DD is a real expansion pack? No. Since first time I heard about DD, I have envisaged DD would have many new things to play ( many new musics, many scenarios with in-depth unique map like Cuba crisis, Korean war, etc ). Expansion pack must 'expand' her original to 'whole new world'. Think about Tribunal of Morrowind, Brood war of Starcraft, TOB of Baldur's gate 2, etc. You can say like this. "Hey guy how could DD be compared with this legendry products?". But, Paradox consider themselves as the World-Best Grandstrategy game developer. Hah. Shame on them.

Treat your customers like your king. Don't complain about their complaint.

Well I would have liked to get new tunes, and maybe even new (divided, smaller, more precise) provinces, but I think that DD is pretty ok. After all, it wasn't (too) expensive, and that amount of money lasts like 3 minutes in a blackjack table during a bar night.

Yes, either way, DD wasn't a terribly expensive product, even if the amount of new content wasn't staggering. Besides, any future HoI 2 buyers will be able to grab most everything in the game in one box. Think of it as an 'expanded Game of the Year Edition'. ;)

Never played the game before now, after i bought the DD version. So...until now im happy about what i got.

Same here. I payed £15 for the game on Amazon.co.uk, hell £5 more than bargain bin prices for the full product. Paradox are unique among developers, they pay attention to the forums...but they also have to make money.
I'm even thinking of buying HOI2 (i'm sure I can get it for a £10) just to use some of the mods that haven't been updated to DD.

I believe in supporting developers of games that I play :)

Yualian, I really think your thread isn't helping anybody. Obviously you didn't bother to buy the game and try it out on yourself (perhap you tried demo). I think the money is well spend and the game is much more fun compared to HOI2. I think you didn't put things into perspective when you launched this thread. And don't get me wrong - I'm not defending this product de facto - but DD is better then HOI2 and it doesn't cost that much money ...

I dont mind the cost...its only £20 after all...

Although in all fairness, the expansion does amount to a new scenario and thats about it... short of new AI's and the new units, the modding community could have come up with something similar.

I like the new CVLs (even though they are really CVEs- I have no idea why paradox did that??) and the intelligence options.

But as mentioned I was surprised that there was no new music (not that it really bothered me)...and I was expecting lots of new events. I also think the tagging on of new units in the tech tree without researching their models and such is pretty weak.

All in all, Im 7 out of 10 satisfied...just get a pronto fix for the experience bug, give the new units their correct model names and Im a happy camper.

Well,I dont own DD and dont intend to buy it since Im rather short of money and increase of things to do from HoI2 seems so small its not worth my 20 euros. But I believe the ones who dont already own HoI2 are extremely happy with their dd.

How about comparing DD with the patch that added 1938 scenario into HOI 2?

So, then... HOI 2 players without DD will never get few UI improvements because they make DD different from HOI 2 original. Is this true? As an old fan of Paradox series, recently, I got one lesson. Never buy the game before so-called expansion or other come out.

I would have been more upset if it was a full priced product, but it was relatively cheap (in the UK its cheapest on play.com by the way).

On the other hand the major 'enhancement' of the intelligence system I simply don't like (I started a separate thread on the intelligence system not being 'fun'), and the loss of the experience leader system is just ridiculous... I was about to say just about everything that can be said about that has been said (see the vast thread created), but since Paradox haven't said very much, that is not the case!

I will certainly be giving future Paradox products a wide berth untill they are well into their second (or more) patch!

I bought DD with my eyes wide open as to what it would offer, and I have not been disappointed at all.

Others feel the content does not justify the price? I understand that.

Everyone cannot be happy all the time about everything, such is life.

Altho I agree with Yulian that the content is not what he had hoped for, I also feel a certain sense of loyalty to reputable companies that I don't mind at all beefing up their financials now and then so they continue to remain solvent. And someday give us Hearts of Iron: Modern War.....from 1953 to the present. :)
