Doomsday in Windowed Mode

To run Doomsday in window, use Pegasus Hexa Wizard to make the work for you or change following bytes in hoi2.exe of your Doomsday installation (you need some hexeditor to do this):

Windowed Mode for Doomsday 1.1

Address     Old value     New value
 2CFF58         75            90
 2CFF59         0C            90

Windowed Mode for Doomsday 1.2 or newer

Start Doomsday with WINDOWED parameter. 
If your Doomsday is installed in 'C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Doomsday' directory, 
you need to fill this into target of your Doomsday shortcut: 

"C:\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Doomsday\hoi2.exe" WINDOWED

Dont forget that your desktop color depth must be set to 16bit. Otherwise you'll get error while loading Doomsday in a window.

ATTENTION: Always backup your exe before you alter it! And DO NOT apply for Paradox support when you have problems with game running on modded exe!

Hm...I get a "Fatal Error: Could not initialize video!" when using the Pegasus tool and when I make the changes myself.

Is your Doomsday box version 1.1?

Also, you must set your screen's color depth to 16bit, otherwise it won't work.

Its the downloaded version 1.1. I just redid it, and it was the color depth (was at 32bit). Everything works nicely now.

Hello the Hex editing is not the same in DD 1.2 (as in DD 1.1)


However from the asm code is visible that new option was added.
Now is only needed to run the "HOI2.EXE WINDOWED"
(Edit the shortcut and add word WINDOWED)

For anyone interrested I accidentally found an option to run DD in "DEBUG ENABLED" mode. I don't know what it exactly affects though.
for "DEBUG ENABLED" mode edit the 002CF51E and 002CF51F to value 90

You mean you dont see any scenarios/savegames? I had this problem too, there is F shown under checksum in main menu so I created "f" directory in DD folder and copied ai, db, gfx and scenarios there. And it works...

I remember you could delete a intro file so you would not have to set color depth to 16 bit. Anyone remember what file it was?

Color depth always has to be 16bit, regardless whether intro is loading or not. Anyway, all you need to do to disable intro is to rename 'avi' folder. I have it 'avi_x'.

the - windowed thingy is not working . im sure im using the right version but theres no way my hoi II or hoi doomsday would work windowed
