Now although the idea of this scenario interested me enough to buy this game, I feel it is very limited. Where are the events that transpire into WW3?! Why do we just start out with Germany carved up and war already raging and the USA dropping a nuke on Moscow? What about the stand-off events, Allied airlift, building of the Berlin Wall, Patton's insistance on invading, etc..
Certainly there could be some events that actually trigger the war instead of just starting smack dab in the thick of it. What is the point of the FGR and DDR satellites when none of the Allies can create the FGR alone, or the war is raging on at the doorsteps of the DDR (and why does the DDR start off with circa 1941 tech)?
Why is there such low Nazi partisan activity when it is well accounted that Wehrwolf guerilla groups fought Allied occupation forces well into 1949. Also, why are there no Nazi leaders or groups in the FGR or DDR? There were numerous rabble rousing neo-nazi parties in postwar FGR and even the NPD began in the DDR, not to mention the Red Army Faction terrorists later on. The political dynamics of this game suck!

I think of the myriad of events missing in this scenario and tend to think it is a shame. The regular HOI2 is much more dynamic to play. This was a big waste of money in my opinion.

I agree, I would like for there to be many more options in regards to the start of WWIII. But maybe that should be the subject of an entirely new game. A HOR type game that is just based on the cold war would be very interesting. It could last from the end of 1945 until the fall of the Berlin wall. Imagine being able to play Korea, Vietnam, Afganistan, Cuba, Angola and any other nation that had conflict during this period.

Historically Wehrwolf was mostly a hoax. Just one more strange idea of the Nazi leadership. The only jerks trying to make it real were some kids here and there, while military and intelligence Nazi leftovers made their own deals to get out of country - or into new positions serving the Allies.

But I agree with you that I didn't like starting the DD scenario with war already raging at all. So the only way to play it like I want to, is to play through WW2 again and then go on to DD in my way. If there ever should be a working Cold War mod I hope it will start historically with the world being divided without major action first.

Thats what I thought too.
So I started a GC as USSR but the allies never set foot on mainland europe nor were able to defeat japan. So there is no WW3 going to be in europe in this game.

Not that this doesnt sound interesting. So it will be you against the Greater Asian Welfare Block? No high probability for this historically but not impossible.

Well said. The doomsday scenerio is no fun to play when it forces your hand. You should have at least 6 months/1 year to position things for how *you* want to play, instead of being forced.

yep, no good; I got HOI2DD and I ended up playing 36 campaign all over and over again; the thing is its buggy and the intelligence as the main new thingie aint working that well so buying DD before a proper patch is dubious; I hope the paradox will NOT give up and will prepare a PROPER patch asap to correct huuuge bugs disicussed on forum and make finally DD scenery playable

Nuke on mocow just like that? hillarious and sad; not good, not expected paradox quality

instead working on 3 new titles at the same time, they are sQQQrewing up the HOI title big time, does it mean there wont be HOI3?! Obviously when they treat it this way, bad swedes  :p

Quite the contrary...

There is a well written account, if you are aware, on Nazi partisan activities starting in 1944. It is a very interesting and overlooked account of a very taboo historical subject. Although rather insignificant in what they (the nazi partisans) established, it would still be an interesting and plausible element of play in DD. So check it out on amazon if you are interested:

Werwolf!: The History of the National Socialist Guerrilla Movement, 1944-1946 (Hardcover) by Alexander Perry Biddiscombe

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/08...f=pd_bbs_1/002-0191752-2319217?_encoding=UTF8

I think everyone can agree here though that DD needs a major overhaul patch. I created my own scenario with the DFR and DDR dividing Germany and the Commies and Allies not yet at war but also upped the partisan activities and made the alliances correspond. Quite a bit funner than the "stock" version and it only took me a few hours to create.

Well, regardless of how prominent the nazi werewolves were in the original timeline, the DD scenario is a 'what if'... If russia started getting its ass kicked by the USA or the extreme turbulence war would cause in occupied germany, who knows how large the werewolf operation 'might' have become...

Of course there are books on the subject, that does not mean there was any substanive Wehrwolf activity. They managed to kill the newly appointed major in one West German town and distrupt some fuel transports, that´s it. And it does not merit any partisan acitivity in DD beyond 1% really. A more sound option would be to make the partisan activity of western Ukraine larger as there actually were some uprisings there. So really, Wehrwolf was a grand plan but it failed miserably.

By the way i second the opinions of the first post, I feel kind of cheated, it´s really just a new scenario that could easily have been made by a modder for the original HOI, the expanded Tech Tree is not really exciting at all and the Intelligence function is interesting but does not really make any impact on the game.

Why not start a little bit before war and have events leading up to it.

Maybe when the nukes hit Moscow some ministers die?

Possibly adding Patton as a US minister.

Surrender events
