Merchant Republics should have the opportunity to give boats in exchange for a favor (a small one, such as sacking Constantinople on the way).

To be honest, that's because ships and logistics are a joke in game. Venice put on hold all of its projects and poured its whole treasury for two years, to build a fleet able to transport 30k men. It should be an enterprise of apocalyptic dimensions, with adequately-sized consequences if the crusaders end up not paying.

Crusades or no, the game doesn't need more breadth. It needs depth. PDS should focus on fleshing out what is already in the game rather than adding shallow new content.

Wanting an improved crusades mechanic is a different matter than complaining about any additions to the game outside the Catholic, western European experience. Using the game's title of evidence that such work was out of scope always struck me as absurd. Glad to see the devs share a similar sentiment.

I did not see any such sharing of that sentiment - they are clearly saying that e.g. dynasties is core part of the game. If you think this is not reflected in the title is an entirely different matter (and I would disagree with you). The "title argument" is about coherence and consistency to some ideal. You may have a broader/narrower view of what is supposed to be part of that ideal, but that is entirely different from the position of disrecognizing such a limitation and (dumbly) claiming there was an attempt to directly derive it from the title without regard to its actual meaning.

Ck2 thread with the most devs participating?

Before China, Tibetan Basin would make more sense (it's already on the map technically), could come with a rework of Merc Orders (ability to of the person they fight against to buy them out), holy orders, and some other overhauls.

Regina posted linked an interesting interview of Doomdark on the Paradox Development Studio forum (forum link, interview link). There are a lot of interesting comments for the CK2 crowd. Here's what I got out of it:

  • They will be developing more character-driven games like CK2.
  • They plan on covering other periods of history in future games (so 27 BC to 769 AD, perhaps the Bronze age?)
  • Doomdark would like the game to expand across all of Asia (China DLC) but is constrained by the computational power of desktops.
  • All those silly arguments that go "it's about the Crusades!" can stop:

I would welcome an Asian-themed game that weren't as formulaic as Sengoku. Other periods could be pretty nice too.

For the record, P-dox is probably ready to embrace the roleplaying genre by now, or at least more daring hybrids. (Back in the time, Warcraft 2 was called a hybrid, mostly due to the atmosphere.)

I'm not sure how widely known this is, but Doomdark is now our "Director of gameplay" as well as leading Augustus, so he gets to spread his sheltering wings over all our games now :)
I hope he has a superior ancillary with the title Director of Peacetime Gameplay. If he doesn't I'm sure it's only a matter of winning one heroic victory... +1 command star and ancillary.

I like the fact they said they will be making more character focused games, it gives me hope for Rome 2 :D.

I wouldn't mind China DLC if only my poor laptop wasn't struggling to run the game since Rajas, though its gotten a little better. I wouldn't mind the Tarim Basin at all though with fleshed out Manicheans it would be perfect and insta-buy DLC for me.

Though the like the idea of someone mentioning a smaller map focusing just on the area you are playing, that would be the perfect compromise.

I've actually never seen CK2 as a game about crusades at all.

Back in the day, while I was tremendously enjoying EU3, the name "Crusader Kings" kept me away from CK1, because it misled me into thinking it was mostly a wargame about crusades (I don't like the HOI series for this reason that it's more a wargame than a grand strategy game).

Then I stumbled upon a let's play of CK1 as a prince in northern Russia and realized you could play it without ever caring about crusades at all, and that there was a lot more depth in it than just a crusading simulation.

So yeah, the name is very misleading, and I can only second Doomdark when he says he never liked the name.

I wish he would also step up and say it's also not really about dynasties anymore.
Well, he kind of already did.

He said a long time ago yet that he wanted all factions to be playable eventually. Currently, there's only one "Can't play as xxx" message left on the game selection screen... that's why I'm so confident (i.e. sure) we'll get our Theocracy/HO DLC sooner or than later.

Well, he kind of already did.

He said a long time ago yet that he wanted all factions to be playable eventually. Currently, there's only one "Can't play as xxx" message left on the game selection screen... that's why I'm so confident (i.e. sure) we'll get our Theocracy/HO DLC sooner or than later.
Why would a Theocracy DLC add non-coastal and count-level republics?

absolutely agree. Any more DLC they do on asia is a definite no-buy for me. The game doesn't even properly resemble the indian 'feudal' systems let alone byzantine and the holy roman empire. So the notion of sticking in teh rest of Asia i find somewhat laughable.

Do you think it's different with EU4 or Vic2? All mechanics are centred around Europe and ROTW are just using that same mechanics. You don't propose Paradox disables ROTW in EU4, right?
