Lots of historical flavor events, and important big scripted events, with lots of contextual events as well.

Stuff like Forming Germany will be decisions though, so that you can KNOW how to do it without reading gamefiles.

I think Vicky (and even VIP) have a good balance between historicity and flexibility. Yes, there were a couple of dumb events (Guadeloupe-Hidalgo up to the 1900s for example), but with a bit of modding things turned out great.

With even more possible triggers I think most of the events could still be included. Some might be better served as decisions true, but these should be a bit more time-limited than in EU3. I shouldn't be able to incorporate Texas into the US, if I waited until 1920 to do it.

The only thing I would lose are the highly deterministic colonisation events of VIP. But there the new spheres of influence concept should take care of things.

I seriously need to play In Nomine to see how this looks like, but I assume it's similar to HoI3.

A mix of decisions, contextual events and scripted big events sounds very good to me. :)

Perfect. One thing though, please make it so the AI acts unhistorically some of the time, as other have said it is a shame that the North always wins the civil war, regardless of the actual progress of the war. It would be cool to see ahistorical-but-plausible events like that, maybe a grossdeutschland with Austria, Holland hangs on to Belgium, an Ireland with home rule etc...

Lots of historical events would be awesome but not like in Magna Mundi. It would be sweet to actually play the game, not just sit and wait for events.

If it's like In Nomine but with more events with historical flavour, i'll be more than happy :D

I think we should all count the number of times our vicky-games have been even close to how it was historically. And how much sense different events made after say 1860. Right. There's no point, it's just odd that after I as Bavaria defeat Prussia and take most of their land, the franco-Prussian war still commences as if nothing happened.
A good dynamic system is superior. emphasis on good, because if it's like the original EU3 or NA, a event system would be better. But with decisions, with a good enough AI, a dynamic system is far superior to a strict deterministic one. The latter may work somewhat while playing a historical great power, but once you start playing minors, the deterministic system just breaks down and the result is either no system at all or very odd and senseless results.

So please, paradox, do this just like you did EU3 IN. If you don't, it should be because you do an even better dynamic system

No it's not! half the fun in Vicky were the historical events which were exactly NOT the cookie cutter blandness that EU3 events of the type "Dear _____ , the evil warmongers in ________ have incited _________ rebels in the province of _________ . How dastardly of them!"
Instead in Vicky, and much more so in the VIP mod, the events can tell a story, and more than one most of the time. You have events like the Muhammad Ali crisis which go back and forth and ask the major powers for their opinion, or the events leading to the USCW which (in VIP) can go along all kinds of different ways. Always staying close in their description to what actually happened, and increasing fun and immersion by 5000x compared to EU3. This is not a game about long term historical processes like the renaissance, baroque and enlightenment, it's about the industrialization and then the imperialism which put Europe into the position of total global dominance, transformed societies and brought about modern technology. This restricts the game, the major inventions are not going to be made by Hesse-Kassel or Zululand or Haiti, they are going to be made by the major nations. The nations in the game also don't arrive at the start of the game in 1836 fresh and clean like kids going to the playground and picking a game they like, they are already in a very very clearly defined historical situation. It's *meant* to be played like a history game. Not like a sandbox.

Victoria NEEDS events. It just needs 'em. If make everything a game mechanic, and decision-based, you will completely alienate the Victoria fan base, and those expecting a more traditional PDox game. This is your momment of redemption, PDox.

Thanks for telling me what makes me alienated. :)

I could do with American Civil War/1848 not happening always at the same time the same way but we are on right road.

Leviathan07 said:

Au contraire, all the bore of Vicky were the historical events. (atleast after a few games)

I want a game not a history book.

Perfect! Exactly what I wanted. Anyone who doesn't really like it or wants more flavor events can always add them with the bonus of having missions and decisions steering the game along as well.

That will be enough discussion of the whole debate between "historically plausible" and "freedom of ahistoric potential" for today. Let's await the eventual dev diaries and see what Paradox has in store first before engaging in what will be the Victoria phase of the great game player civil war between plausible and potential.

Johan/Balor has stated what the ideas are for the role of events, and that is good enough for now.
