(Playing with the Geheimnisnacht mod) The AI (high elves) will when attacked by the dark elves send their army or at least a part of it to the capital of the dark elves which is a coastal province but as it will take at least some 30 months to siege it down (fort level ~15) and this place will usually have some severe winters the army just gets destroyed by attrition and the AI high elves dont even try to take a province next to it so at least the supply limit gets increased somewhat and the time out of supply isnt a problem anymore. In the base game you could compare it to Norway attacking England and then England sends its entire army to some province somewhere near the top of the map with pretty much guaranteed severe winters nevermind the attrtion from time out of supply if they dont capture anything. So please just make the AI either take an adjacent province or avoid such a capital with high fort level at all as long as there are easier targets or just let the attacked nation play defensive if the oponent is of somewhat equal strength and attrition is going to be some problem due to distance.

I don't see the issue in vanilla. AI starts sieging neighboring provinces before capitals.

Might be the mod or might be no neighbours causing them weighting for aiming at capital?

As fort lvl 15 does not excist in vanilla, AI might think sieging a heavy fort is worth it not realizing it´s too heavy to actually be worth it? Anyway, the modder must do his AI work here:)

The Problem with the Capital in Nagaroth is that it is coastal and the high elves live on an island (though i dont know wether a england vs norway war could cause a similar problem for the English if the norway capital is coastal). I guess the AI focuses this region so heavily due to the potential war score gain from it. But assuming the player has some coastal province in russia as capital and upgraded it heavily (and it also has the max amount of baronies you can have there) and then declares war on england or some other nation rather far away (because why not) that can do a naval invasion to the capital of the player would the AI not send their troops and take incredible attrition so it is only a issue with the mod or would the same problem occur in the base game in such a scenario?

And cant constantinople also get to fort lvl 10 (which will take quite a while to siege down (though no winter attrition will appear))? Thought they had some special building there.

Is there an inland border between the realms?

Uhm, no? The high elves own the entire island. As already mentioned it could be compared to norway attacking england (standard kingdom borders) with a fully upgraded norwegian capital in a coastal province with severe winter, so even in the base game it will take a few months to siege it down and if it is winter... But i dont know if the basegame AI will instead attack an easier province first and this is only due to mod related reasons (extrem high war score for capital or something like this because there are many many provinces from the dark elves a lot closer to the high elven island and those also have eiter less severe winters or at least better chances for less severe winters).

Also i have seen a lot of bad AI from paradox games (especially the stellaris AI from one month age was/is extremly bad (sending fleets to attack your fleet and fully ignoring the fact that you have 2 more fleets right next to your weak fleet so the balance of power is about 1:3) or in victoria 2 i have seen an allied sicilian army constantly walk into rome and out because some papal states army (which wasnt even anywhere near half as strong) was in a province above rome and constantly going towards rome and then stoping when the army came back and instead of simply attacking the papal states army (they couldnt run away in time from that province) this continued for months until i got pissed enough and started as sicily to fix this problem) so i simply assumed this might not be only mod related.

Think they only have uniquely named Fortification, that is maxed out at all starts.
Not only is it maxed out but to my knowledge you can't build that last upgrade Constantinople has in any other barony. I don't remember how much (how many? hard to phrase it properly) fort level it gives though.
