This is then dependant upon from which way you hit the WC. If you come up from below you'll hit europe when it has level 5 or 6 fortresses, and those cannot be assaulted without a breach (at least not if you want the province, if you're just looking for a way to reduce your army, feel free to go ahead:D) so having +1 siege speeds the process along quite nicely.

In general this analysis is very interesting and good. However, never say never Nikolai II!

I my present WC GC I was in a late phase (around land tech 49-50) and, playing as Aden, had lost so many soliders trying to siege Toledo ("Mighty" fortress owned by the Spaniards) and it was also tiresome to each month send in fresh troups keeping the total siegeing above 25k, that I finally decided I would risk an assault on the next BB round. So I built troops en masse and finally on the next round when Spain Dowed I had some 600 artillery and 150k infantry standing ready and they made it!

I got megalomania and tried a similar trick with a maximum fortress in Zeeland but that was a failure. Took two assualt tries to capture it.

Now a little later I will try to take Zeeland in one! I am presently building like hell. I will try to have around 1000 pieces of artillery and 200k men. I am looking forward to this experience!

Of course, this kind of massive concentrations of men is not possible on earlier rounds of BB wars since then you will need all these precious assets elsewhere.

IRC, the -1 siege rating will reduce the base score of your forts. So a min fort in the plains would start with a score of 0, not 1. Feel free to test it out...

You mean the siege rating also affects the forts? I've been playing this game for several months and only learned about that now! That serves me well to not visit this forum regularly.:(

IIRC the maintenace of your units is based on the purchase price.

  • Maintenance land, base: 1/240 of current purchase price. So if you've got 94,000 infantry and they cost 6d to purchase, their upkeep is (6/240)*94 d/mth = 2.35 d/mth plus additional upkeep if over the support limit.

The figures for infantry and cavalry are erroneously listed as 0.000 for 1,000 units in the army display, and the figure for artillery is off by a factor 10. (So 0.013 for 10 artillery when it is 0.130)
  • Maintenance land, over support limit: haven't checked recently.
  • Maintenance naval: haven't checked for either base or over support limit.
