Dominion versus satellite

OK, I know there is a theoretical difference between these two, but does it affect the game in any fashion. I.e., if you change the UK event that gives Canada "independence" (substituting make_satellite for make_dominion) it still works, and the effect is the same. At least as I can see it.

Anyone care to comment?

A satellite has a Defense Alliance with it's master, while a dominion has a Full Alliance.

Are you sure. Im pretty sure the UK has a defense pact with Canada in 1881 scenario and is a dominion. IIRC that is...?

It should be a Full Alliance, but in my last game as China - I was beating on the UK and Canada declined to join in on the fun.
