CK inhabits that land of strategy role playing games that few companies explore but which when pulled off right are games you always come back to. The closest thing to it in terms of experience for me was X-com when I started putting all the rookies up front so the soldiers I liked wouldn't get killed.
What I love about it is that you can build a powerful country under a dynamic ruler and then just have the whole thing fall apart, but still be there in a far flung dukedom to rebuild your dynasty.
I hope Rome gives the same. If anything it looks like it could be an EU/CK hybrid.
