since I upgraded to VIP, my game runs very slow. is it like that for everyone or is it just my computer?

Mine runs just fine.
This is a game from 2003 so any halfway modern PC should be able to run it really fast. My laptop is from 2005 and has no problems. Only the loading screens and the autosave take an annoyingly long time.

ah, ok, the autosaves were the thing that got my attention. 15-20 seconds for a save is a lot of time but it's something I can live with. thanks
You can set the autosave to happen only on longer intervals, like every 12 months instead of every 2 or 5. If your game runs stable enough that you don't fear crashes, that's what I would do.
VIP should not run fast it might skip events and such it's a good idea to reload every few years.
