If the NI becomes useless in 1650, it seems like you should get an event that removes it for free, blocks it from being repicked (for the AI), so you can take another event.

Either that or give it some more bonuses, so that when you lose the war-dec bonus it's still worth holding on to.

The holy war CB was an entirely new effect in HttT, it doesn't lose any of its main effects, so I don't see how you could consider it useless after 1650. If you took it only for Holy war you just have to suck up the stab hit of changing NIs, it's not like Unam Sanctam is the only way to get it anyway.

No, he mentions it no longer works against the Ottoman empire. As well as letting your DoW heretics, US is one of the triggers for the holy war CB against heathens. You can get holy war if it's before 1650 by either:
Being DotF.
Having Empire FoG.
Having Unam Sanctum.
Having Divine Supremacy.
Neighbouring a heathen.

You also get it against the crusade target so long as you're christen.

Unam sanctam only works as a CB against heretics.

The CB for heatens is probably deactivated together with the crusade option in 1650.
