This question just occurred to me; as I mentioned in another thread, my 1.10-patched game has started to crash on me. It's my first GC, I'm playing Austria, and it started crashing to desktop after year 1640 or so (about once every session). The specs on my laptop are the minimum required ('tho the processor is a little faster and there's plenty of HD space).

Others don't seem to have this problem; could it be because they're using the IGC and I'm not?

I don't think that the IGC helps for the Stability, but as Patriot said it sure is more enjoyable:D :D :D

Something that helps me so that the game wont crash is to save very often. When I do this it crashes very little.
To me it looks like that when I save it is some sort of checkpoint so that the game has more "time" left and then it wont crash;)

What the others said. The IGC hasn't eradicated any bugs in the code or anything, but perhaps some scenario errors and event bugs have been fixed by it...and some bugs might have been added too. :D

I've noticed that too, both with EU1 and 2... very strange, but it seems to work that way. When I have crashes it usually happens when I haven't saved for a few years. That could of course just be Murphy's law working...:D

Interesting -- come to think of it, I think my crashes have been happening after I've let the game run without saving for a while... But I do have the autosave set to go every 3 years, so we're talking pretty frequent saves.... But maybe the autosave is of a different sort..? I doubt it... But I'm willing to save every year if that's what it takes...

I don't like the autosave... the game always jumps a couple of days during the save.

That probably some way out of your problem, to save often, but I wouldn't trust the autosave. It is not always very trustable;)

...update: I just reinstalled everything. During last night's long session: not a single crash! Even as the entire continent waged war against me! (Poland & Hungary excepted, of course)

Another change I made that may have helped, but probably makes no difference: I did not load from the "Europa Universalis [no music]" executable that you can get through the Start menu, as I had previously been doing.
