Does the AI ever accept Enforce Peace?

013Paw6.jpg

Why is Livonian's desire for peace -101? The war is obviously lost - they have no army, no navy, and all their provinces are besieged. It's literally impossible for them to avoid utter defeat without foreign intervention. Meanwhile there is a gigantic nation with 70 000 men sitting on the border ready to rescue them and enforce a white peace, but they don't want it. Why?

Meanwhile they're willing to accept an Alliance with me.

Another example:

What is this Desire for Peace modifier and why is it so strong? Genoa would accept vassalization if their opinion was high enough, but they won't accept me enforcing a peace?

That is Denmark's and the Ottoman's desire for peace, not the other way around. Getting an AI to accept an enforce peace is tough but I have heard of it happening.

I agree that it makes it completely useless... Even if they are losing and can't possibly win they won't accept it... Also I wouldn't give a fuck about the Ottomans or Denmarks desire for peace in these situations. They either make peace or they deal with me if they want war that badly... In my opinion this is a broken feature, don't even understand why it's in the game, because it never works, well maybe in a very very rare scenario.

Also I've never seen an AI intervene into wars. Wouldn't it be nice to see AI countries demanding peace or otherwise stepping in themself? It would be so much more usefull then forming a coalition afterwards, after the damage is done... I would really hate it when this would happen to me, but eventually I would like the extra challenge and the fact that it feels like the AI actually cares that I'm about to take a bite out of another country and increase my country with 20%. Now they only enter a coalition when somebody has allready expanded much, they never intervene to actually prevent that from happening in the first place.

The new system which allows you to ally during a war and call them in when the war has been going on for a while is an improvement, but this feature should also be tweaked a little.

This. In practice someone will only accept enforce peace if they are losing and the war has been going on for quite a while, but I've had it happen too.

This. You can't enforce peace upon Denmark probably because the Livonian Order has less than 100 opinion of you (check the tooltip when mousing over send and it should tell you why).

If Enforce Peace is to be a major means of intervention, there needs to be an intimidation component in the target enemy's decision-making - like the weighing of forces we often see.

I do. Use it quite often to intervene in wars I don't want to see nation X win, and quite happy to join the war for a chance to set nation X back a few years. Have seen the AI accept peace, but usually when the relative difference in strength is through the roof.

Ok, I see I misunderstood what the UI was telling me somewhat.

However, Enforce Peace still seems broken to me. I only need +1 relations to form a lasting, two-way alliance, why on Earth do I need +100 to perform a one-way, one-time defense of a neighbour?

Probably to make sure you didn't just go defending everyone against someone you didn't like. Gotta put the effort in. The +100 value has the interesting dynamic which means that for anyone not of your religion, you'll need something more than just improved relations to help them, which I feel is flavourful.

I can understand not getting free entry into defensive wars against whoever you like, but I think the system could be quite a bit more dynamic. A tiny Protestant state bordering a gigantic one, which is about to be annexed by a Sunni nation, should not object to intervention from their brothers in the faith, regardless of the relationship between them.

I've had AI accept Enforced Peace and it's often been a surprise. It's usually when I'm more advanced in military tech than the AI I'm enforcing peace against with modestly to ridiculously larger armies on my side. Sometimes the UI isn't correct and the AI will accept the peace anyways, an annoyance when I want to help build up the defending nation.
