I don't think there was orignially, but there was a huge thread on this a while back with a load of people upset about it (wanting on OOB at least for organisational reasons). I seem to remember seeing rumours that some form of OOB would be in the game, but I don't think there's been official confirmation. I'd be amazed if they don't have this, though - even if its not represented on the map.

Does HOI4 still have corps, army or army group like old
HOI 3?

We haven't got the official Answer yet, in the Alpha there was no OOB at all, hopefully we will get an answer to this question in one of the next DDs.

As far as I am concerned having to use the new Battle-plan system without an OOB will be extremely frustrating, so I hope they will implement one.

The interface was a bit clunky and the bonusses somewhat odd in hoi3 but to my mind it merely needed streamlining rather than replacing.

Churchill didn't spend hours trying to figure out which brigadiers to put in charge of which units so I don't see why it was necessary, some form of automation was required but throwing the baby out with the bath water would turn the game into a farce in my opinion

Sincerely i prefer the game without the old OOB.

wait until you are trying to organise a large Land operation like Barbarossa and you have to individually assign each Mot and Pz Division to an axis of advance - then you will be thinking longingly back to when you could 'grab' a Corps with one klick and order an advance.

I found the OBB in HOI 3 a bit tedious to set up, but once I had it it was great for Land warfare, the Corps HQs I could have done without but at least they were useful for ordering whole corps to do something without having to assign each division an order individually.

Hmm, you must have been watching a different stream than I was. During the gameplay stream he was able to select every unit on the Polish border, and in less than 30 seconds assign them to 4 axis of attack.

Indeed against a non- existent Polish Army try that against a fully defended front line and you will suffer unnecessary casualties.

Its easy to select 15 or 100 divisions and point them at a city but that is not the problem its knowing where they are and when they will engage with the enemy that is of importance. Were the PZ divisions at the spear of the attack or in the rear? How many divisions were first engaged with the enemy? Without knowing the exact locations of your divisions and the time it will take for them to join in an attack your simply trusting to good luck.

The demonstration that was shown is almost of no value and any player doing something similar in the full game would be foolish. Plans will need to be more detailed and require a greater degree of command and control otherwise we don’t have a game.

I saw the same thing you did, and if all you have is < 20 Uniform divisions it does not matter which ones you grab. If however, you try to do the same thing when planning Barbarossa you will probably find your Armour stuck in the marches and your mountain infantry on the plains. In order to play like they showed on the demo you will have to individually preposition each division so that you can be sure that the AI uses it in the way you want it to be used - which is what one has to do do at the moment as well but at least I can move my corps using just 2 klicks.

Maybe I am wrong and my doubts are unfounded - but if what they showed is it, then I will think twice about buying since no matter how great I Air-& Naval-, warfare is if Land warfare is not OK I have no interest in it.

What Wulff says. It's not much of a problem when going into Poland (okay, it actually can be even then), but when you have 100 divisions and you're looking for your four divisions with tank destroyers amidst all the other ones, and they're all in different places and you've lost track of where you sent them... it's incredibly helpful to be able to control-click their HQ, which instantly selects all of them, regardless of where they are.

I don't care for the micromanagement aspect of it in HOI3 - having to keep units in range of HQs, assigning leaders to HQs, etc. etc. etc., but if I can have a "brigade search function" in HOI4, along with some sort of OOB-ish representation of my army that lets me keep easy track of everything (on-map or off-map), along with some nifty auto-organize tools, it'll make HOI4 a lot, lot easier.

I think I understand - what I am looking for is the ability to create at least a 2 level organisation i.e. Corps / Army. The 'HQ' (for want of a better phrase) does not have to be on the map but I would like to be able to assign a predefined Corps to an axis of attack rather than have to micro each Division. I agree with you that monitoring the HQ - Division distance was not one of my favourite tasks but compared to not having an OOB at all I'll take ;)

What I would find absolutely dreadful would be an RTS style {ctrl}+[Number] type OOB - that would kill HOI4 for me.

Having that only would be a letdown, yes, but HOI3 actually has it and it can be really helpful at times, most often if I'm multi-tasking and want to be able to quickly return to a division or air wing or whatever.
