I'm going to confidently assert that nobody has tested this. However, I don't see a reference on the wiki, and it seems unlikely that they would have set a flag like that.
You could probably rationalize it as Grey deciding they have nothing better to do and sticking around after the first five millennia.
Gray is actually aware that he’s in a simulation, and speaks directly to the player. He that means he will serve you for 5000 years of our time, so you’ll likely be dead before his service ends.
Shouldn't be that bad.
Get Gray, become the crisis, blow up every planet except your home system, enact population controls and set game to ludicrous speed.
