In my game I've noticed France switch governments - first to a Bureaucratic Despotism, and most recently to a Revolutionary republic.

Yet they still hold Muscovy under a PU! What's particularly offensive is that even while the head of france is no longer styled as a king, he is when you hover over the ruler in Muscovy.

Will nothing break the PU? And further - if, by some incredible feat, I got France to negative prestige - would the PU break at the next, er, election?

IMO it would be logical for him to be ruler of Muscowy even if somebody else is elected for France. But I wonder whether if game generates ofsprings for republican rulerships. Interesting scenarios there :)

I'd just imagine that George Bonaparte is succeded by George W. Bonaparte in both positions. ... ;-)

When I switched from Kingdom to Dutch republic I could no longer PU nations but my PU with Naples remained.

I get that (through some logic) the individual is recognized as the head of both governments.

What I want to know is - PUs break when there's negative prestige or negative relations when the king dies. Does that apply when there is an election?

Someone in another thread mentioned that PUs with a republican senior will break on election, he did not specify the prestige status, however.
Imho, PUs should break when either partner becomes a republic.
Possible xceptions that would make sense could be:
- non-elective republic as junior (which is hard to imagine, though. revolutionaries are not going to retain the head of government)
- noble or dutch republic as senior (at least some nobility left), noble republics would lose the pu on election of a new ruler (old ruler continues PUs)

The other option would be to force the nation under PU to become a republic as well. Though it makes little sense, but as much sense as the stadholder being king somewhere else.

I would love for Noble Republics to get some extra stuff, like electing the monarch of a country.
Sweden/Norway did that under Kalmar - to a point and at gunpoint at least.
Lithuania did so with Poland.

But for-life republics would not be the same problem for PU's. Being monarch in one place and head of the military junta another is imaginable. Being general of the military junta and using that to get your own kingdom elsewhere is as well.
I think the difference is that, if a government does not have the ability to form royal marriages, any PUs should break instantly. The restoration of union CB would, if succesfully pressed, revert the government change.
Republics that can have RMs would break on monarch death, unless the junior reelects that country (Added to the election event: continue PU).

It wouldn't be the perfect thing for PUs, weird republics or the PLC, but it would go a long way to fix the most glaring stuff.
