We've seen the discounts in controlled systems, but does having high rep with a particular faction give any perks specific to that faction, like access to unique mech variants or special veteran pilots from that faction?
Does faction rep grant any special perks?

i think i remember some pilots requiring a specific reputation in a faction to be hired. Also it was mentioned in the old forums that the contracts were easier to negotiate with a hight rep.

I doubt it. The following is what we do know about faction reputation and MRB (Mercenary Review Board) rating:
It seems that even if you travel to a system with higher difficulty rating, that doesn't mean you will receive spawned missions from any faction other than independent at that higher level. You must work to build your reputation or you'll never be offered better missions, according to the text there.
A good reputation with a faction does seem to give you better prices in the store when you are in a system they control. Outside of that, I'm not sure. I thought maybe reputation opened up more mission possibilities with that faction, but I might be mis-remembering that bit of info.
There were No Fly areas on the map, which might open up with reputation.
