I have Salic Consanguinuity as my inheritance law, and my ruler has only one child, a son. However, he is not my successor, and does not appear anywhere in the list of successors.

He is not a bastard, but somewhere along the line seems to have got himself excommunicated; would this make him unable to inherit the titles and therefore remove him from the succession? Inheritance does still seem to be traced through him as his sons are my successors.

Excommed can't inherit ... Bastards can, but only with Elective law.
