Does everyone else here have 'favoured' countries? Or is it just me?

Whenever i play Vicky (or any other Paradox game for that matter), i am always biased to the few nations i favour; i have never played a game where i have been in a state of war with the UK intentionally and i usually try and have an alliance with them.
Likewise with Prussia, i usually try and help them out in whatever way i can and with the exception of a Denmark/Scandinavia game i played, i usually try to help them out in whatever way i can. Also in 1.03c (the version of Vicky i play), or in Vanilla, i have never, ever, seen them Unify. Usually they accept the Crown of Germany in the Frankfurt assembly, and the NGF froms (and sometimes the SGF) but i have never seen a unified Germany. Anyway i try and help the Prussians because 1. I hate the French (mostly in games and not in real life) 2. They seem to be an underdog and 3. The AI doesn't really help themselves.
Other countries i try and stay friendly with are: S-P (i always hope for Italy), Belgium and Switzerland.
Does anyone else do this?

I often find myself cheering for certain countries against any others, including myself. As an example, I feeel a deep twinge of patriotic guilt anytime I sink a Canadian ship or defeat a Canadian division. I cheer for the Italians and Japanese because I've had very fun games as them, etc. I definitely have a few favoured countries, although for some it's just because I hate their opponents. For example, I always cheer for Republican Spain for a number of reasons: 1) I hate fascists. 2) They're socialists 3) Manuel Azaña was an awesome dude.

Yes, there are countries I root for and usually have a go as them my first time playing the game. It changes for each period.

CK: Byzantium - nothing like a lost cause. I love restoring the roman empire to its days of glory and I've had games where I've crusaded accross half the world to save the thankless Byzantines from the muslims.

Victoria: Austria/Austria-Hungary - again, with the lost causes. Despite everyone else's experience, in my Vicky games all Austria seems to do is slowly collapse, like they did historically or faster. Whether they're being gobble up by Russia and Prussia or just getting kicked around by S-P, I feel bad for them.

HOI 1/2: I like to play as the soviets, but I don't really like them when I'm playing someone else. I guess I'd have to say Italy because they have to play second fiddle to Germany and get beat up by the UK.

I like wierd countries. Wallachia, Mongolia, Hawaii, Zulu, California Republic. So hard to defeat, but if played right it is really fun.

I tend to play non-colonizers in EU2, but that's more a clue to what I like in the game vs. particular countries.

I definitely root for countries the AI has trouble with, and dislike ones the AI plays TOO well. For example, I really dislike Sweden - they usually go ballistic in my games, or Austria - the Big White Blob scenario.

Similarly I feel sorry for the Ottoman Empire, which rarely does what they managed historically, or 1419 France. (If France survives intact then I no longer care.) I try to help the tiny German states cuz I don't want France or Austria eating them.

I always try to play as historical as possible and as I certainly like to do something those countries most of the times are 'start small, grow large countries'. So, I played the Mughals (EU2) and the Mongols (MES) dozens of times with the first one being my absolute favorite. Next to that I certainly like Croatia and the Ottomans. For Vicky I liked to play countries I know, Holland and Belgium and for HOI2 I like playing the Germans or any other country as long as there is a lot of campaigning.

Of course, the OP wasn't exactly asking what countries we prefer playing as. Just favour. I do favour Ethiopia and Korea when I do not play as them, however.

HOI/HOI2: Prefer to play Germany, favour nationalist Spain, Sweden and Finland when not playing those

Victoria: Prefer to play Prussia/Germany and favour Spain and Sweden

EU2: Prefer to play Castile/Aragón/Spain & Byzantium. No favours.

It would seem at a glance I only like playing the big strong boys, but Byzantium gives away the real reason I like to play these countries: they're all failed great powers - something for me to remedy in the game!

In EU2 i oftenly favour countries that always preforms very bad.
Like Brandenburg, England and Savoy.
I give revolt and infaltion events to France and Poland because I can't stand them in EU2.

In Vicky I always try to help Denmark, Austria, Siam and Mexico.
And I always annexes the CSA myself so those pesky americans doesn't get it back.

CK: I don't really have a favoured country as such, but I always like to see the Spanish kingdoms do well.

EUII: I tend to favour any minor who manages to conquer a few provinces (like when in one game Ragusa conquered southern Italy). It's also nice to see the Ottoman Empire do well.

Victoria: Prussia and Sardinia (in the vague hope that Germany or Italy may form). I also have a soft spot for Greece.

HoI2: None, really.

In EUII I typically have a soft spot for those nations that arise from a revolt, like Ukraine or Almoravid. I'll sometimes spend huge amounts funding their fruitless wars. Also the Black Sea region. If I'm a Christian nation Georgia or Abkhazia can expect funds or if I'm a Muslim nation the moneys probably flowing into Crimea's coffers.

I don't really have a favorite nation. I've played numerous ones, great and small. I love them all, but for different reasons. Even as Cyprus I didn't really go after what they would have wanted to go after, aka KoJ. At least not until nearly the end of the game, that is. I don't try to play historically. I already know my history pretty well, I try to do in general what if's. What if such and such happened? What would be the outcome? That sort of thing.

I like to recreate the Roman empire in my games EU1 - the pope, EU2 - Bysantium, HOI Italy. I've always got a soft spot for newley formed nations in EU (on the rebels!) and I always look out for the commies in HOI (even though I fighting them half the time.)

In EU2, Victoria, and HoI2, I always favor one nation in particular: Japan. Japan just bloody rules. It bugs me that there's no way for the US and Japan in HoI2 to form the Pacific alliance of DOOM without heavy modding.

I like alternate history, so I tend to favor the historically defeated- Republican Spain, the CSA, any outcomes of nationalist revolts (go Ukraine!), Communist China (well, not ahistorical, but they almost always get their butts kicked in my games), and so on.

As soon as I find a mod that gracefully creates the California Republic as an independent state, I am SO taking the Bear Flag Republic for a ride.

HoI2: I always tend to help Nationalist Spain, because I don't like communists. If the Republicans do win, I invade them.

Victoria: USCA, I almost always try to help them survive.

EU- Sibir, bigtime, Scotland, Prussia; Brittany (but then, I AM Brittany right now, so that colors things a bit )

Victoria- Russia, Bavaria, Prussia, USA. Sicily, because that's who I'm playing as now. Anybody who's fighting France

CK- Um... Whoever the strongest Russian dude is at a given time, anyone on a crusade, Scotland, .... Byzantium sometimes

HoI- Soviets, USA, Germany (unless they're fighting Soviets)

CK: Dont realy play very much the only Paradox game I can't realy get my head around...

EU: Play as Brandenburg or England, root for anyone fighting the French/Austrians

Victoria: Play as Austria 90% but UK sometimes (when I want to prod buttock) favor/root for CSA!! (always interven as UK most times as Aus - Normaly anex US between us and set up Calafornia & Texas) any Italian minor thats not S-P (usualy because I'm Aus but still want Italy to form) and once again anyone fighting the French..

HOI: Play as UK/Japan/Italy.... root for Germans when fighting French and Soviets, Poles and Yugoslavs when fighting the Germans and anybody that fights the US....
