Once you have taken Russia, Persia and inherited the turks as the Golden Horde you get huge manpowers and plenty of wars with the Poles (among others.. :))

Getting to raise your next 200k army in 4-5 provinces instead of all the way from Ingermanland to Isfahan both speeds up the way to battle for them, as well as reducing micromanagement. (It is a great annoyance to have to open several provinces to build your armies, much nicer to get large armies concentrated at once)

On Topic: Being old doesn't make it wrong. Conscription Centers are useful whenever you get them, and people have to be reminded of that :D

I agree with Nicolai II, it is an old tread but the question is always important no matter how old it is.

I use the Conscription Centers as much as I can. I simply love it when you can raise a big army at one time, if you have enough money.

two comments about conscription centres:

1. in my first ever GC with Turkey I had a period of major revolt in the mid 1600s, from Orthodox provinces in the former Russian plains, from Shia provinces in former Persian provinces, and from Pagan provinces in India. I had plenty of income, but not enough available manpower to raise enough new troops to fight on three fronts, so was slowly losing control to rebel scum. I was saved by a Land Tech increase, and the building of conscription centres. With extra manpower available, in 5 years I had crushed the rebels, and was back on the way to world domination.

2. I currently play at speed 1 min = 2 months, without ever pausing. This forces me into more realistic strategic decision making, and less of the tactical wargaming decision making that you can get into when playing at a slower speed. At this speed I can't spend to long right-clicking on many small provinces to build troops, so normally position a few consription centres in key provinces around the world. I use these same provinces again and again and again to build troops.

For #2: You'll have trouble making AARs. :)

I don't think it's much more realistic when you play on 1 min = 2 months... The generals during that time-span weren't forced to make decisions in a hurry; they could take many days to decide what would be the greatest strategy to use. When a war lasts 30 years, it's not like if every minute counts... ;)

I totally agree. I used to play like that too, until I realized it wasn´t more realistic that way after all. Now I play on the highest speed and pause a lot.:D

Oh, and I do build conscription centers.

If one wants realism timewise, then u should play on the slowest of the settings in order to get as close to real time as possible. ;)

It is also a great way to make historical mistakes, out of boredom and wanting something to happen :)

I originally started at a slower speed, but found

1. I was playing the game so slowly I was going to take many months to finish a GC.

2. I was "micro-managing" battles - endlessly splitting and rejoining units to get the best inf/cav/artillery mix for the next battle or seige. After reading other posts on the forum I decided to play EU as a strategy game - I would try to be the "gray eminence" behind the throne, rather than inhabiting the minds of every commander.

I took the idea about 1 min = 2 months, no pausing, from an AAR I read.

... and if I want my own mini-AAR I pause at the start of each new monarchs reign for 5 mins to write, otherwise I scribble notes as the clock keeps ticking .........

Conscription centers r great in any situation, from small province kingdoms to 100 or 200 or more. They also increase the manpower output of the province by about 5.:D

it depends on the original output, like Moscow has 4 and it goes to 10, and Anglia goes from1 to 5.:D
