That theres any poss. of par. releasing a tutorial w. a patch? I'm mainly a HOI player, but I want to like this game. I've had it since release and STILL cant get up and running! I cant complain about gameplay issues because I cant get that far into a game! Ive read thru every thing there is to read, so please dont direct me to a thread, it doesnt help. I dont think Im alone, and a tutorial might make this thing more accsesable and maybe even give it a second life, its just to damn hard to figure out w.out a manual or tut.

Try an try again is what i recommend.

Thats the way i learned, not through the posts in here, however many have.

If your starting with 1.02, then it will be harder than what i had to start with, but you really have to say what nation your starting with before you can be given really concise help.

Is the manual very helpful? I must admit I try to use it, but am still very confused. Even the concept seems abstract to me. I do like Paradox as there one of the very few companies making these kinds of games, and as such I want to support them and will, but while I dont generally play tutorials, I DO need a walkthru for this one. Maybe I'm just too dumb and dont realise it because the walkthrus on the board were even too involved for me. Yours truly, the " I Need a Tutorial Dummy"

Oh, sorry. I'm drawn to play Texas, its small and seems like a good choice to learn the premise, I was also playing the latest patch, 1.02 maybe, but arent sure because I uninstalled in frustration and am awaiting 1.06 for HOI. I know thats not a good country to start with, but thought I could learn a few things before the Mexicans had there way w. me. I tried playing as the recomended countries but had as much trouble with those as with Tex. Maybe a very slow and detailed, and I mean DETAILED, walkthru could help me. Thanks for the help.

This forum is very handy in case of specific questions you can lookup by keyword (search).
But threats outlining a big picture of the game (or providing general help) are rare indeed, because the game is rather complex.

As a HOI player I'm sure you'll manage to paraphrase specific keywords on Victoria to be used in the Search.

Btw: Ideas about how others play Vict are demonstrated in the After Action Reports Forum

Original Gamer:

My advice is to keep trying to figure it out. I won't lie: I got this game just before Thanksgiving and it took me until darn near Christmas before I was able to get into the swing of things. Then I discovered 1.02. Yeesh.

It might make your job easier learning the game under patch 1.01. The game is easier, if arguably not as good, under that patch. My other recommendation would be to play with a different country. Texas is cool and all (I'm from Houston myself), but it's got a particularly nasty task at the start of the game. I'd recommend going more for Belgium or Sweden.

Another bit of advice is to pick a country and stick with it. I went for Prussia from day one, and though I got trounced by the size of the country I had to manage, I stuck with it, and eventually you pick up all the little nuances of the country itself. Besides, it makes you an expert on playing as that country, while you still get to pick up the rules and stuff.

As a direct answer to your question, no, I don't think Paradox will be releasing a tutorial with a patch, mainly because it would involve translating that patch into several different languages, so I think you're on your own with that one. But don't hesitate to post any questions you may come across. We here on the forums are happy to help in whatever way we can. :)

Good luck!

No, it actually takes a significant amount of time to make a tutorial. Also, no new text is going to be added in patches for reasons of translation.

Belgium seems to be a popular country for learning the game.

keep trying - bout all anyone can tell ya - you'll like &/or love the game once you get past the steep learning curve.

you may wish to try a large nation than Texas to learn with :) France is pretty easy & is fairly straightforward - a good nation to learn the basic game concepts

I did Switzerland my first game, myself. Not too big, but still has a varied assortment of raw materials. It's a good one on figuring out how to balance the budget and make money, and you don't have to fight anyone until you really want to.

Caveat: That was under 1.01...

GOod luck,

Stilicho

Uninstall 1.02 and just install 1.01 from Strategy First's site. Play as Germany in the 1881 scenario on easy. Then just click around and see what things do. That's how I learned to play. Pause the game often and just explore the game features.

Yeah, but then you try that with a later patch and to bankrupt. It just seems like training for a marathon byt walking down to the shops to me.

If you want to learn the game then IMHO the best thing to do is play Britain. You will have a decent starting industry set up, money to raise troops and a distant colonial war about to start.

You'll have machine parts and other goods needed to convert populations so you can get industry off the ground a lot faster. You'll be able to see what decisions are good/bad without grinding to a halt.

Take the game slowly and if you screw up you will still be one of the most powerful countries in the world.

Actually, I thought the UK was kinda hard. You don't have all that much population in Britain for factories and you have to cover your empire all over the globe. France or Belgium seem like better starters.
