Does anyone else's playtime go way down when a patch is announced?

I hear you on that. It's a rare game that I play more than 100 years. I don't think I've ever finished a game of EUII, EUIII or EUIV. Pathetic, I know. Just so many countries to try.

Probably no. Expect some minor surprises though. (like how colony LA will be handled, or how South Georgia suddenly becomes colonizable)

Yup. I am reluctant to start another playthrough until 1.9 comes along. And I've actually lost interest in my current Italy playthrough, too, even though I only have 20 years to go (it might be the first EU 4 game I have ever played to the end date!), so I might resume it just for the "achievement" of finishing the damn game for once, haha.

I am just mostly hoping for 1.9 to finally fix the AI freeze bug... restarting works when it's a vassal or an ally you notice to be frozen, but good luck noticing nations in fog of war getting screwed over and losing wars etc. because of this bug. While I like some random political maps (ex. I've seen Finland take over Finland & Sweden), it'd be better to be sure that it was caused by game mechanics coming into play, not one nation's troops suddenly being frozen forever.

Yep. Same with CK2. I also don't even play unti i get the DLC that the patch comes with
