Does anyone else's playtime go way down when a patch is announced?

I think EUIV is the only game in which the patch announcements have significantly affected the amount of time I put into the game. This was especially true a week or two before AoW, I didn't want to start new campaigns or even continue old ones knowing that the game was going to be drastically different so soon.

Now with 1.9 coming up, I feel like starting a new campaign but I'm delaying it until the patch release. Instead, I'm fiddling around with older campaigns and spending much less time on the game than I would otherwise.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I do it for major patches and mod releases.

In the case of 1.9, while it looks like it will improve the game, it's not enough to actually deter me from starting a new campaign; 1.8/AoW, on the other hand, that put a damper on my desire to start a new game.

If the patch will break saves I don't play. Like at all. But I should really try to fix to finish the Brandenburg game before it hits.

I finished my last game a couple of weeks ago, and I am now waiting for the new patch before starting a new campaign
So currently Im playing some of my other games, Eg- FTL and Banished

I didn't play for almost 2 months except a few 10-20 year long test runs when 1.8 was coming out, but 1.9 won't affect my current run so I'm going full speed ahead now.

Well, I just got my Arawak savegame corrupted by broken network.

Since that LA floor will be removed and the embargo bug and the vassal income bug (both very relevant in SA) will be fixed, I don't feel like to restart it before 1.9 come out...

I started a campaign with Brandenburg a few days ago, but discovered that income bug so i stop playing, now im waiting for 1.9 to resume my game. 1.9 is due this week right?

Yes mainly because I want to play in India and as Theodoro, guess what.... the new patch has achievements for those. Now I just do short campaigns for easy achievements like Liberty or Death.

The opposite, usually, with major patches. I end up trying some areas that I think will change in the patch, so that I can compare. The 1.9 achievements do push me away from certain starts, but not the game.

With bugfix patches it's different. If a big bug that I've hit is going to be fixed I may stop playing until the patch.

I find myself looking at small starts in preparation for things I plan to do after the patch when patch information is released.

depends on the patch. With the 1.8 patch i stopped playing for around 2weeks. But for 1.9 i won't. Getting some old achievements at the momemt, because nothing big will change.

Yes my playtime went down 1 month before aow, and right after i've to say. I'm just waiting for MEIOU and VeF because i'm not appealed anymore by achievements and while i recognize that ROTW needed more flavour i've to admit that europe is the only ground in which i feel like i'm not losing any chance to have fun. There is so much diversity and chance to see big empires clash one against the other without the necessity to have them cover half continent. So mods are the answer for me.
Instead, about MP, it's an exception ofc. If i've the chance to play a mp game i can even roll back to 1.2 if i've to.

Depends on how big the patch is, but usually my playtime goes up before a new patch since I try to finish my ongoing campaigns before the patch.

Oh yeah. Its like, I start a game and are playing it, then they announce a new DLC or coming patch that looks great, and I stop waiting for it and start a new game when it comes. It feels like I do not have the full experience due to missing functions or bugs otherwise.

Doesn't really affect me since I rarely finish a game in the first place. I am the master of the years 1444 -1510.
