Just a thought: you can't move past forts untill you siege them down. Wouldn't it be more realistic to be able to move past the forts, but you will get HEAVY attrition because obviously the supply lines have been broken. For example starting with 10% attrition going up 10% a month, and looting land past it will reduce it by 5% (or something). That would maybe give even more options to consider, although they WILL be very costly.

Wiz, has any thought been given to this whole idea of mothballing forts until the last moment? It's been stated here and there by people that a fort with 10 people is just as impassible as a fort with 10000, but can this be confirmed by Paradox? And is this intended?

a fort with 10 people is not as impassable as a fort with 10000...
since the lower the garrison the easier it is to get a breach... so low garrison forts can be breached really fast and be assaulted with minimal efforts and losses while high-garrison forts will force much longer sieges even if you intend to assault...

i believe this system may actualy work extremely well.

Given:
Spain owns all of Iberia and doesn't blob into Europe at all, developing all it's provinces.
Question:
Is it a viable strategy to build forts in every single province in Pyrenees and the second row adjacent to them? So that any French invader would have to deal with like 7-8 forts. It seems an expensive solution, but you can keep activated the first row, while the second is activated only when the first line is nearly breached.

I would say: yes

I would place the Fort in Armagnac instead of Bearn (5 provinces within ZoC, instead of 3 with Bearn)

OK, so you have a point there, looks like Bearn is further to the left than I thought it was. Still lets the enemy (you know, the enemy who everyone is secretly/overtly supporting against the BBB) go in through Languedoc and so forth though iirc.

P.S. The fort system will introduce a direct correlation between shogi proficiency and EUIV success.

The only provinces a Iberian force can reach is Labourd, Bearn & Toulouse. Narbonne or Armagnac needs to be sieged down first, for any further advancement can be made.

Breaching through a fort with 10 people is apparently waaaaaay easier than doing the same to a full-strength fort.

And we could finally see a Spain capable of resisting France? (at least for a while)... thinking about It, now fortifying the alps should be a really interesting strategy: unpassable fortified mountains + 100 galleys, unapproachable Italy?

Right, though forts can only control provinces with the same owner.
Not even allies? Does that mean a fort bordering an allied province won't extend its zone of control to them, meaning the enemy could go around a fort through there?
Any comment on this one? Could it extend at least to subjects' provinces?

It seems that France has been pretty much nerfed regarding to Arumba commun sens video? Or is it the AI ?

I really dislike the change of not moving past forts. They weren't some invisible Gandalf wall Once a fort was invested with sufficient numbers that they cant break it with a sortie, the army should be able to move on. Albeit you could add an attrition penalty.

How would you walk around the fort? They weren't build in remote location, but on the main routes, to protect them. And, as battle is not a single battle but an abstraction of all battles happening in the province, fort is not a single building but a whole fortification system. It is literally blocking the road.

I think it's the best addition in this patch.

How would you walk around the fort? They weren't build in remote location, but on the main routes, to protect them. And, as battle is not a single battle but an abstraction of all battles happening in the province, fort is not a single building but a whole fortification system. It is literally blocking the road.

I think it's the best addition in this patch.

You just walk past... You've committed enough forces to invest the entire complex, if you want to abstract it that way, and then you keep walking, it's not chinese wall were talking about here.
