I'm another one who much preferred the period music to the more generic music of Waldetoft. It's not BAD mind, but it IS generic (and also much, much more repetitive)

Period music? If you mean HoI:1 music, I hate to tell you, but that's not period music -- it's like 1700/1800s period music.

If you wanted 1930s/40s period music in the game, I think it'd be decidedly less dramatic and more silly and grand-band stuff, which is hardly appropriate war music.

IMO the best HoI music is found in the World in Flames Mod. Nothing gets you in the WWII mood more than classical speech excerpts such as "I have nothing to offer but blood, sweat, and tears".

I'm sort of against speech in these games. It is almost always in English, one-sided, and I am sure it is against the rules in some major countries to play Hitler's/Stalin's/Hirohito's voice. I'd say stick to music only.

And I'm quite certain there are no such rules/laws.

Not as such, but certain quotes may be out of the question. Let's say that putting in an old Goebbels speech in all of it's glory (?), might lead to something that wouldn't actually benefit the game or the company.

That being said, most world war two games have bits of Churchill to spice things up. But I fear that finding a politically correct piece of German or Japanese propaganda would be quite hard. It would be either something that no-one would recoqnise, or something that people would recoqnise all too well.

1. Downloadable .Zip (or otherwise) file of all the HoI:1 music?
2. MOD that puts that music in HoI:2?

Let me know, thanks.

I think my dear old USA takes the political correctness to the insane level, though. On the WWII monument in Washington, D.C., they have on one of the walls the famous speech by Roosevelt, but it truncates it horribly. Instead of reading "With confidence in our armed forces—with the unbounding determination of our people—we will gain the inevitable triumph—so help us God." it has all of that, sans "so help us God," which is just so stupid.

Ok, rant over.

It is nice track though i`ve heard a lot better :( .Maybe its too late for suggestions concerning music but i loved the music from MOH(Allied assault,Spearhead and Breakthrough) it was more lively and intense, perfect during wars maybe Paradox could hear it and think about it :).C&c Generals also had incredibly good music.

I`m not saying anything bad about the composer`s work i just think it should be more dynamic and not just "march"-like music.

Here are the best themes from MOH just to show you what i mean:

I love it!
I can already imagine this song playing in the background while i wait for the first batch of star destroyers to roll from the production queue!
No, seriously though i love it. Very fitting for a war game.

I don't especially like to be negative, but the tune was way too reminiscent of the Star Wars type music by Williams that others have mentioned.

It did not evoke the era of the '30's and '40's at all, for me at least: and that is a problem when dealing with the issue of "suspension of disbelief" in playing a game like this.

Music help sets the mood and clearly mood is a big thing on PI's mind - look at all their comments about the arty gray nature of the HOI3 map. But this tune misses the mark completely, IMO. Sorry; hopefully I'll find the next tune more more evocative and inspiring me to go out and conquer small countries...:D

The idea of music is to give historical flavor. After all this is a Grand Strategy Game based on a certain era. It is not just a wargame. Speeches or whatever sound effects or even just popular songs of whatever languages from that era would greatly enhance your immersion into the global experience of going back in time and lead a nation of your choice. Sound effects or speeches could also accompany certain political, diplomatic etc events. Similarly, graphics would need to give you a historically at least minimally correct ambiance (the more you know about something the more you miss that). WIF gives you the Holy Crown of St Stephen as the background of the Hungarian interface. Need I say more?
