I am totally against that idea. There IS a reason for TI...

... namely, that some parts of the world are only being available to settle in with higher levels of technological skill and go along with sometimes significant changes to the landscape as well. Which never stopped nations from laying claims (sometimes even overlapping ones) on them, of course.

None of it is currently simulated in EU3.

More flexibility in terms of notices would be good, too. For example, I'd like to be able to set the game give me a pop-up when a country changes religions, without getting pop-ups for every other national decision they get, too. Same with joining or leaving the HRE on the province level. (Though the religion thing is a lot more important; it can be hard to keep up with shifting alliances due to religion changes during the reformation. In my current game as Brittany, I recently lost 4 or more vassals/allies due to religion changes without noticing at first. Fortunately, I noticed our alliances were broken before attacking France.)

I'd like the following things in an expansion:

1)Diplomatic option to purchase provinces. Purchasing territory was done quite often in history and having the option to sell without the option to purchase(and the AI never offers) is annoying.

2)Balanced peace deals. Instead of white peace how about peace deals where you can both demand and offer tribute. So in a peace deal you could give up some of the land your opponent took in exchange for some of the land you took, or maybe add some ducats to the deal so your war score is enough to claim a strategically important province you would need to war for years more to attain.

3)I'm also a fan of the dynasties. Having an outline of your family and being able to choose successors would be awesome.

4)The ability to rename your country without changing your tag. This would likely be huge for mods, as from what I've heard, having a lot of tags can really slow down a mod, it would also be nice for people who want to use a made up country without going through the trouble of modding it in. Its already in for provinces and capitals, why not countries?

5)The tag console command from Rome. I cheat, and this makes it a lot easier than saving, resigning, loading new country, accepting bloated peace deal, saving, resigning loading old country.

6)No more terra incognita. Use other methods to disuade colonization etc. such as high movement costs, attrition, etc. rather than big ugly grey blotches.

7)I want to be able to choose which provinces a vassal gets when I release them.

I haven't gone through all the posts, but i agree with most of the suggestions. I'd add (if it hasn't been said in the posts i didn't read), increasing moddability of the buildings (especially in regards of the ledger), more options to be able to set peace or other diplomatic moves through events/decisions...

Not sure what I can add (and didn't read all 23 pages before me), but I just want to say that YES - I would most certainly buy (and pre-order) a new expansion.

There is definitely room for improvement even if the game is god as it is. To name a few areas that springs to mind for improvement:

1) HRE could use a lot more depth (As could incidentally the Papal games)
2) PTI - while reasonably explainable in past games are getting kind of silly as we move into the nineteen century with the games. Also even if an area is not hospitable it can have great strategic value for moving troops or simply for prestige.
3) The rest of the world - I realise this is *Europa* Universalis, and that is where the focus should continue to be, but the rest of the world is a large part of the near infinite replayability of the game, and could use some lovin' at least :D
4) Many more mod triggers and options - the game can never do everything (or should even try to), but it can leave the door as open as possible to those that want to put more work into it. And while it's good as it is, I believe there is still room for improvement.

Oh I'm sure there is tons more I'm just not thinking of now. Point is the game is great but there is always room for improvement, and I for one would buy such improvement :D

I'd rather have an expansion for EUIII, and VickyII and CKII, before getting EUIV ;)

I'm going to repeat a few ideas but only because they're good:

- Overhaul the manpower system so you have different pools for different continents or geographical areas. For example France might be able to draw on 100,000 troops in Europe but their spread out North American holdings only have a pool of 3000. You could also say the supply limits for these areas are linked with that. This would make colonial warfare harder and slightly more accurate not to mention really hammering home the importance of a strong navy to ship troops over as now you can't just raise every single regiment in a 10,000 strong stack in bloody Barbados.

- Balanced peace deals where both sides can gain or lose something ("I'll give you some Carribbean islands but you have to recognise this personal union")

- A trade system that actually simulates the routes goods and merchants have to travel. I mean right now you find a CoT and send merchants over for guaranteed MONEY. The whole system just feels very simplistic and not in a good way.

- Being able to purchase regions.

- The return of trading posts maybe? :p

My two cents:

-The timeline shouldn't be increased further, both in SP and MP it's painful to play 400 years.

-Once 3.2 solved all the major/medium bugs out there, I think focus should go towards (aside from the usual-proposed-from-checco spy boost) the management of cores; You could add the diplomatic option 'Remove Core' from a foreign province, since it can hurt prestige so heavily. And while the 'Add Core' itself could be rather exploitable, more ways to have random events spawning cores after the borders (including more general missions tied to the same culture or geographical area of influence) would be nice.

-Things from EU:Rome I'd like to see implemented are surely the 'Call for allies', which would simplify the alliance system during wars, and a 'Create Client State' (like those Napoleon built for his empire), basically a subject nation similar to a vassal but without the chance to declare indipendence by itself, AND the chance for the overlord to create it from scratch, unlike the 'Create Vassal' which is based upon the cores.

Napoleon took some 'provinces' and made them states, I suppose a player would like to do so when having a large empire and not wanting to release vassals which would have one or more of the liege lord's core within them, which are precious.

I´d like a "diplomatic watchlist", where you could keep a closer eye on neighbours (do they switch allies, guarantees expire, royal marriages etc). The message settings affect all the world, but sometime you just want to pick a target and watch them. Might be a spy mission, or dependant on monarch´s diplo rating, but something like that could give the player more overview.

I don't know if this at all possible.

The ability to see the marching speed of armies increased/decreased would be awesome.
Also be great for modding pruposes.

I am definately up for an expansion.

(It has been mentioned. I would love a Crusader Kings II...)

I´d like a "diplomatic watchlist", where you could keep a closer eye on neighbours (do they switch allies, guarantees expire, royal marriages etc). The message settings affect all the world, but sometime you just want to pick a target and watch them. Might be a spy mission, or dependant on monarch´s diplo rating, but something like that could give the player more overview.

Yes, this would be a neat feature.

I for one would like to have revolt risk incorporated into one of the map modes, like either culture or religion. I would like an easy way to see where to tell my security forces to park themselves. Perhaps just put a pitchfork and torch icon where revolt risk is greater than 5%.
