I'm in a Ger 36 GC, its Oct 43 now. Europe and Asia are mostly mine. It has been a challenge and fun, and there's still more to do. But I think I need the DAIM mod to improve the AI. And I was wondering what mods people use to make the game better.

Most will disagree with me, but I don't like the DAIM mod at all. It simply uses exploits just like the player to make the game "harder". This isn't a mod that improves the game, it's a mod that screws with the systems to overcome percieved challenges.

I play vanilla and try and set goals other than just beating the world as fast as I can. I like to do it with the most economy and national well-being as possible.

I was worried about DAIM being just that. I'd love to have the AI just play great without resorting to cheating or pure handicapping of the human player. I understand your concept. If you set other goals that are not based on VP's and Military Domination you can make the game more challenging and realistic. But that falls short when the AI simply Botches its invasion of France or Russia. Or it can't keep its RN from being wiped out by one large wolfpack of 30 subs.

I just started the HSR campaign but have played the starfire mod and liked it. Experience actually means something in that one and battles for entire provences last more than 4 hours.

So far HSR has alot of flavor events allowing for more flexibility and engagement

I am also using the death date remover, Holland's German Units graphics, parts of the Germanization pack(don't remember author), Hannibal's navy graphics, Terps graphics for countries other than Germany and Stoney road's graphics for everyone else.

The nice thing about both of those mods is that 1) you can use all those things togehter (it just involves proper copy/paste techniques) and 2) You get HOI2 with starfire and HSR sub-folders

What is the "DAIM" mod? Thanks.

It's a mod that improves the AI drastically, they have their own sub-forum in the mod section.

Wow, your making my head spin.

I know of Stoney Road and Starfire, but thats all. What is HSR? I'll have to do some hunting to see whats out there. I'm just afraid of scrambling all this stuff together and it being like somebody mixing drugs with acohol!

I just tried DAIM this weekend and so far I like it. I'm playing as Germany again and this time Japan is a real powerhouse early in the game and the US actually has a bigger army than I do by '39. UK even did a decent job defending their home islands (I took them but they had it defended with almost 50 infantry units so it took some work).

Japan annexed Nationalist China before I even started my war with Poland. I was disappointed with Italy until after they joined the Axis. They sat there and did absolutely nothing after annexing Ethiopia until I got them into the Axis after taking the Vichy France deal. After they joined the axis they started taking over Suez and the middle east so I'm satisfied with them now. I was surprised they didn't go after Yugoslavia or Greece though. I took Yugoslavia without Italy mobilizing a single unit to help.

I stopped paying attention to Japan for awhile after that because I was busy taking over the British home islands but when I finally did take another look at them again early in '40 they had conquered most of India and almost completely pushed the UK out of asia. UK is down to 7 VPs now so I'm getting close to being able to annex them.

Now it's early in '41 and both Japan and the US still have a bigger army than I do (I'll pass them up in a few more months). Russia has almost 400, US is #2 with around 250, then Japan with just over 200, then me with almost 200. I have by far the biggest air force (Russia is #2 and mine is almost twice as big). US and Japan are the only countries with significant navies (both have around 200 ships). My navy consists of just my starting navy plus 3 transports and a bunch of subs (I disbanded all ships with less than 2500 range).

I haven't played the US or Japan yet but they must have a decent base of manpower to be able to build such a big army so early. I spend most of my IC on building supplies right now because I don't have enough manpower to build any more units than I already have in the que unless I want to start my war with Russia at zero manpower.

So far I have annexed Austria, Czechoslovakia (split with Hungary), Poland, Denmark, France, Yugoslavia, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Persia, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq plus I control the European provinces of Belgium, the Netherlands, and the British Isles. I also puppeted Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and Ireland. The axis are me, my puppets, Japan, Italy, Nationalist Spain, Hungary, Romania, and Siam.

Using the Leader/TechTeam death date remover MOD as well as a color MOD that was just put out changing national political colors. (not sure who made either, but both can be found through a simple forum search).

Oh and ps...if those respective modders see this, thanks! Both are wonderful!

Withought going into specifics there are many AI changes in 1.2 that is all I can say NDA prevents me. So you can expect an improved AI.

TRP (Total Realism Project) is already available if you sign up for the beta. To do that you have to go to the TRP website, register and then PM Lothos (me) to get into the beta. We just released v0.3 and we are getting closer and closer to a playable version. Some of the betas have said we are already very close to a playable version if you ignore some of the minor stuff we are still in the process of enhancing (which does not effect playability) but we want to make sure this thing is solid when we roll it out. We have done things like remove hills and replaced them with desert mountains. Have done a complete revamp of the resource layout (still changing it). MANY terrain changes to the entire word. Ports have been limited to key areas rather than every coastal hex having a port and the list goes on and on.

Later on today I am going to release a sumary explanation for 0.4 beta and what to expect in it.

Heh, well these provinces are just mis-shaped hexagons after all. :)

So far, the only mod I use is some self tweaking of difficulty.csv. I have been thinking seriously about adding the leader death mod, since the way that system works irritates the heck out of me.

Thank you all very much for your responses.

I have a question for Lothos directly if he should return to this thread or anyone else who may know - Is TRP going to be compatable with v1.2? Will it be compatable with higher versions? I will post this on the TRP site at some point, I usually am only on one forum at a time.

Thank you for your time.
