As I say, I find 1356-1444 more fun in EU than CK, but that's just my opinion, and I'm obvious in the minority or they'd have done it differently (Or they're going to push it back with DLC later). Regardless, for those like me there will be mods for it soon enough I expect!

I agree. CK2 is great for the medieval period but I'd rather play from about 1375 on in EU rather than CK2

Every few years, I get really caught up in the hype for a new game in one of my favorite genres, hoping that it can be THE game that makes all others in the genre superfluous (almost). It hasn't happened to me in a few years (maybe Skyrim for RPGs, where I was a little more disappointed than usual when this happens), and it hasn't happened in strategy gaming for a long while (can't really remember the last time, partly because I wasn't even aware of Paradox when EU3 came out), but it's definitely happening over this game and I am quite hopeful.

So, yes, I think EU4 will surpass EU3 in all regards, and I say this while fully admitting that EU3 is one of my all time favorite games.

Quill18's videos have really convinced me, and I am extremely excited.

In Quill's videos , it showed rulers past the one currently ruling in the recorded history. Me thinks something is up with that.

Nah. That is probably just using the history files. You can also go back generations in some dynasties in CKII, even before the Old Gods was even planned.

I'm not sure EU4 will surpass CK2 to those of us who cut out teeth on CK2 and are really enjoying it. The more videos I see the less excited I am and the more I want to go bck and play CK2. I hope I can get in to and enjoy eu4.

EUIV will do well, but CK2 just has more replay value with the way character system works. Then you have the GOT (with the TV show gaining popularity at an astounding rate) mod and there is no video game released able to portray that setting as well as CK2 can.

Well, I got EUII back in 2002 I think it was. Played it a lot making my own scenarios ect., loved the fantasia scenario (I think it was called, the one where every nation only knows a few provinces, and you'd have to colonize them). Then I got EUIII in 2007 and played that like a bitch. Those two games combined probably is over 1000 hours.
I havn't (on purpose) played EUIII in a year or so. So now I am really looking forward to get into playing my favorite nations again. Now with new cool machanics, graphics, events ect ect ect.
I am very excited to get my hands on the game. I will probably quickly clock over 500 hours as I've done on CK2.

Thanks to paradox for these wonderful games :)

RE: Earlier start date -
Give them a chance for easy DLC ;)

I wouldn't be surprised, In Nomine (EUIII's second expansion) pushed back the start date from 1453 to 1399. As far as effort is concerned, fixing up the history files is not that difficult a job (albeit very time consuming to do (editing every province file, adding new leaders and maybe even countries between these dates) 100% accurately, especially the further back in history you go). That said, given they already have the information at hand from EUIII for 1399, and even the potential for going back as far as 1356 thanks to the various modders of EUIII having done a lot of the heavy lifting, the only real hard work is converting said data to any new formats, and of course aligning the techs so you're not 100 years ahead of intended.

Or at least, that's my perception from the limited EUIII modding I have done.

I just can't wait to get this game. I've preordered it ages ago, I've just bought Vicky 2 on steam with all expansions to ease the wait (loving it BTW). I personally got pissed off when quill began releasing the videos and didn't see a single one. Why on earth is this guy playing the game already while we still have to wait? This is torture Paradox! I want you to know, this is like the longest wait ever to play a game. I suppose this is just a PR thing, and I suppose it works quite well (hey I bought Vicky 2 + preordered it so it works!), but I hate you. :)Just release the darn game already and stop teasing us/laughing at us!

I don't bother counting hours played......I started playing games before PDS and Steam were even thought of.

I have played a PDS game almost everyday since joining the forum.

My first PC game ever was Civ 1 followed by Panzer General.

I have dabbled in th Total War series but Always came back to EU1-3.

Now if PDS made an American Civil War game like HOI series, I'd be in heaven.

But I will play EUIV in the meantime.

Well i just reinstalled eu3 few days ago to compare it to what eu4 is bringing in with quill showing gameplay and with all the paradox dds, and tbh with new diplomacy and just with that they fixed huge amount of stuff that eu3 was kinda "bad" at,cause all of the agent system was just so annoying and repetitive that rly destroyed the gameplay alot with sending them to do bunch of stuff and you would forget about them often, training and building is much more streamlined and will be easier. With all that they didnt actually lower or cut off some of the content that was in eu 3, they simply made it more acessible and simply put, better.

To somebody that said that few years before end date in ck2 are not worth implementing i disagree cause u can make your own house in ruler design and you will be able to port it into EU4 eventually, thou it would probably be easier to just edit the save game or starting date to name of your rulers house(I smell posible dlc with adding bunch of coats and naming your ruler or just maybe free content since its easy to implement?I know that they did said that they wont prolly make it but they have all the content with coats of arms from ck2 to port into eu4), also i would like that ck2 exporter on day 1 so i can continue bunch of games from ck2 that i saved off :D

I joined this Forum one month before you. I used to play a lot of Diplomacy back then. I believe PDOX has dropped it now.

As a EU fan since EU1, I think the changes are long overdue. The 'slider based nonsense' has been more than abit redundant since the beginning, and finally they overhauled it. Which is better for the player, better for the AI and less effort all round!

I consider myself someone very set in his ways when it comes to gaming and since EU3 was my entry to PI titles that's sort of the "base point". Kind of like Civ - I played Civ1, 2, 3 and 4 (and some of the other "similar" ones) but then came Civ5 and I lost all interest - even though I'd agree that a change priobably was necessary to further improve the game it hasn't done so for me. And I'm kind of scared this might happen for EU in a somewhat similar fashion.

Then there's CK2 which essentially taught me that I prefer character based, more "personal RP"-like gameplay over the national focused EU. So I'm kind of worried that I'll still stick to that, similar as I'm not interested in HoI as the other PI games just appeal more to me (though I'd probably play it if the others didn't exist).

And lastly I've played Disgaea 1, 2, 3 and 4 for ages and loved all of them, but now Disgaea D2 is coming out and although it'll be great just like the other 4 I'm barely interested 'cause I just feel I've played enough of that. So that's sort of also affecting EU4, unlike EU3 it won't be a first time experience and I've already played what I consider "a lot" EU. I'm not someone who after a Ulm game also needs to play Aachen and Frankfurt, there's a limit to how many "interesting" things I find in games. ^^

I don't really doubt that it'll be a good game, but will it really reach EU3 level of enjoyment for me? Dunno. I'm skeptical, but I always am ;)
