Hello!

I'm in the middle of a game, and i was finding funny to name my ships (the bigger ones) according to the political situation of my country.

As every Great Campaign ends up rather ucronic, I end up without people's names to be remembered (if you unify Germany by 1850, "Bismarck" won't be the name your capital ship, isn't it?).

DO YOU NAME YOUR SHIPS? Or do you leave them as they are?
HOW DO YOU NAME THEM?

In this GC game as Piedmont and then Italy i left the name the game proposed until a liberal revolution left me democratic, with just a ship called "Italy" after the unification.
Then i named a series of battlecruisers after ancient romans of the popular part.
When i discovered romanticism, with my liberal governament i named the next series as natural forces with t (Tyfoon, Tornado, Tempest and similars), then another series as "Tremendous" and "Terrible "adjectives (also with t, just to be coerent).
When i started building PDN, i called them with important concepts, as Democracy and Liberty.
My submarines in this game went with "things you don't want to meet with s", as sharp, serpent, scorpion, sunken rock or unfortunate event (that's "sventura" in italian)
I decided that the aircrafts were the Next secret weapon and so i called them as atmosferic accidents with N (mostly nubes names)
Then i went communist, and after a bit of land warfare restarted navy production: my navy officers (or my fantasy) imposed to have battlecruisers named after old ships that were sunken or scrapped, and BB going on with concepts: i had Fraternity and Eguality to complete with Liberty, i added Socialism, Revolution, Class Cocience....

How do you name your ships?
Do you name them?
Next names should i use now?

See you!

No. I do not name my ships in Victoria. Probably because I spend a lot of time designing and naming ships in Galactic Civilizations II. ;)

Sometimes. In my 1914 Australia game I named Cruisers after the names of the seazones surrounding australia. HMAS Bass Strait... :D The bigger ships were named after geographical areas. I think I had HMAS Australia & New Guinea which were BC's, a battleship called HMAS Queensland and a CV...HMAS Tasmania, I think.

Occasionaly I just let them be 3rd CL Divisions.

I tend to name Capital ships after well known people in the history of the country and medium ships after provinces. Small ships are usually just called the standard name and carriers are named after concepts important to my nation.

Yes. The expanded and revised CSA ship name list in my mod is something I'm rather proud of, and it does the work for me.

I rename couple of first ships of each class but usually grow too tired to do it to all ships. Too much work to change all the names.

Yes, but I've done it by fixing the names in the Unitnames file, since Paradox didn't update it when they released Revolutions.

I sometimes name ships, particularly when I play as France or a English speaking country. It is really fun to come up with French names for ships. :D

Won't it be hard to rule the seas with only 2 ships? "Sis" & "Mommy"

I name my name after regions and, when invading nations, I name them after annexed nations, like a celebration of the victory :D

Yes, I name all my ships including transports. So I'm obsessed... Like RELee I play a lot of GalCiv and, yep, I name my ships there, too (see my sig for a GalCiv AAR).

For Victoria I like to play the US, so:

transports usually get named for lakes, mountains and rivers
commerce raiders - cities
ironclads - 'patriotic' names like Union, Monitor, Republic, Congress, etc
cruisers - revert to city names
battleships - presidents and famous Americans
dreadnoughts and battleships - states
carriers - famous battles (Lexington, Concord, etc)
submarines - either 'action' names (Active, Warrior, etc) or fish.

I not only name my ships, I name my divisions too. If playing a multi-ethnic country, I'm even willing to go through and add a 1 or 2 letter code to indicate the culture of the division

As Scandinavia, I use S for Swedish, N for Norwegian, D for Danish, F for Finnish and G for German.
