Do you lose men if dispand far away from home?

I ve noticed many times now.

Playing byzantium, fighing campaigns long from home and taking the emperor's army with me every time. Many times after a war, I would dispand the army and many times I notice tha the amout of men returning to the home province is much less than the amount of men when I dispanded them.

is that what it's suppose to be?

I've noticed that whenever you disband in enemy territory (or neutral from a recent peace deal), you lose a fair percentage of your force.
If you move to your home territory or probably even that of your vassals, you shouldn't lose any, though.

Yes, when you disperse your army away from their home town you loose a good part of it.
