Along with the Ottomans, the Byzantines (mainly due to mission reward inflation in the DLC) have old and nuanced missions.
What do you want in particular after the reorganization?
I just wish there was some kind of historical friendship reward with Moscow/Russia.
Maybe we can give BYZ a Claim on Throne for Moscow.
Every time I make an alliance with Russia, they betray me because of their debt!
Anyway, do you have any fun ideas?
Ottoman is good too.

You know how Burgundy and Ethiopia and Ayutthaya have missions that grant them tagswitches to their most advanced form? Maybe add one for Byzantium to become Rome, bypassing the requirements to own all of France and Spain and stuff. Also maybe a mission that lets you decide whether to move your capital to Rome, but keep the Capital State Governing Cost reduction for Thrace, or vice versa.

As for your Russia woes, they're best used as a defensive alliance early on, then I find them good candidates for playing the Game of Thrones naturally, because in my anecdotal experience they have a lot of deaths in their 30s/40s, making it possible to get your dynasty on the throne.

I'd really like that. Own all of anatolia, balkan, Rome and have the most dev in Europe -> reform rome and the new missions gives you claim on the regions you don't have yet.

There was a post a while back that suggested that you could form Rome early and you get your national idea as you claim more roman territory.

As for Moscovie, I'd like that once you heal the schism, your dynasty is spread to all orthodox nation estate and nobles. So if they ever find themself heirless, your dynasty is the one taking rules, no matter RM. PU will happen naturally (by wars or luck) afterward. Free PU on russia is too much.

I really like that idea - as you conquer key cities / regions; Alexandria and Egypt, Jerusalem & the Levant, Rome and southern Italy; unlock your NIs.

Someone had suggested government reforms for Byzantium awhile ago that I liked. Having the option to restore the Roman Republic would be cool. It was bascially the Mughal system for republics while the Dictator version was culture conversion focused.

Someone else has suggested the mission tree unlocks cores for Byzantium like Manchu and Qing. Personally I like combining that idea with a Mechanic from Anbennar. There is a country that as a reward for a mission gets cores on all of North America and South America but only for 5 years. So you have the choice of going to war with everyone at the same time or taking what you really want from who you can defeat.

Someone else suggested Greeks come out of hiding events to make the reintegration of Anatolia make more sense both to give a reason to stay Greek and allow Byzantium to have a cultural integration mechanic.

One thing i will ask: please give the permanent claims on egypt all at once. It was immersion breaking to have to conquer a few duchies top of the nile for more claims, then a little more down the nile for the last ones. This is a problem with claims in general from missions, but I felt it acutely as byzantium

EDIT: also, please dont give byzantium OP early missions for fighting ottomans, like gotland

I feel it would be important to create missions related to restoring the prestige and legitimacy of the Imperial Court (which, at this point, had been in terminal decline for nearly two and a half centuries), some mission dealing with the Turks (either unlocking a free accepted culture slot or giving a juicy bonus to cultural conversion in areas of Anatolia which still had large Greek minorities, depending on what you choose), and also missions about rebuilding a Byzantine merchant marine and kicking out the Genoese and Venetians (it's my understanding they basically controlled shipping throughout the empire in its last days, which meant that things went according to Genoese and Venetian interests, as opposed to Byzantine interests). Making it easier for them to form Rome would also make sense, since a resurgent Eastern Roman Empire would have a more compelling claim. Naturally, however, an understanding must be reached with the Catholics and the pretentious Bishop of Rome...

You could probably model some of it with disasters that debuffed prestige, government capacity, trade efficiency, trade power, sailors and maybe advisor costs (it would also make it harder, and we know the devs love that that! ;)). Overcoming these would, of course, offer the player some reward, to help their rise from the ashes.

I really like these idaes, and would love to see some updates to the Byzantine mission tree.
But it could imply that the Ottomans are not in fact perfect beings and an extension of the divinity of heaven on earth, so I doubt we would see it happen.

Nonsense. The mere existense of Russia aka "Third Rome" would be a slap in the face for the true Romans. Those usurpers and rivals would need to be brought into the Orthodox fold by force.

As for reorganization of the Byzantine mission tree I've posted some propositions a while ago here:

I would love to see Exarchates as an optional, very loyal marches and Cappadocian greek culture added (via mission tree/events - not from the game start). And Cilicia.

You say when as if thats a inevitability.
They only claimed that after Byzantium fell.
Of course, we are talking alt-history here, where Eastern Roman Empire miraculously survives and drives the Turks back into the steppes where they came from.

In this scenario, if Moscow still somehow has the audacity to title herself "Third Rome" and declares independance of the northern Rus church from Constantinople, the clash would be inevitable - that is exactly what I'm saying.

If you want to get technical about it you could argue that the Rurikids should have a claim to the Byzantine throne rather than the nonsense of giving B(leah)YZ a claim on Muscovy.

For the autocephalous issue: it would be interesting to see instead as an event chain after a while where russia has the option of declaring independence or letting it slide (not declaring independence maybe gives a yearly lower patriarch authority) or declaring independence. If they declare independence, byzantium could have the option of recognizing it (instant loss of patriarch authority and prestige) or not recognizing it. If they dont recognize it, there could be a schism in the church eventually which forces all other orthodox nations (if there are any, even) to take sides (hurting relations with other). Loser then either finally recognizes, or pushes on, in which case there could be a permanent schism (each sides sees the others as heretics, capable for holy war, probably a country flag). I don't see how a claim to the throne would come from this
