2) Creating a client state - Often, I love create new nations and it's useful for save adm points.
3) Setting a vassal's war assistance mode - Yes

6) Mothballing fleets - Always
7) Army template - Always

9) Swapping occupation - Often
10) Designating as marches - Yes

When you give provinces to client states, do they automatically get cores on them?

So far, only played a Friesland->Netherlands game in 1.8. I go to war with France a lot.

1) Selling ships to someone - Nope
2) Creating a client state - Not dip 22 yet, but planning to create one to replace France.
3) Setting a vassal's war assistance mode - Often. Whenever I go to war with France, I switch them all to supportive so their armies help me beat the French doomstacks rather than getting picked off. Once the doomstacks are sufficiently corralled, then I switch them to autonomous mode. It makes my vassals so much more helpful.
4) DoW in support for rebels - Several times. You can support already-revolted rebels and then DoW immediately (well, 1 month later). When I could still rival Denmark, I used this on them repeatedly to farm power projection. (Enforcing rebel demands conveniently does not prevent humiliation.)
5) Sortie from sieges - Nope
6) Mothballing fleets - Nope (frankly, been at war too often)
7) Army template - Yes — it's super useful.
8) Province siege objective for allies - Yes, but it seems to mostly be wishful thinking. My vassals pay attention occasionally (and only once they've finished sieging whatever inappropriate province they're already on); my allies seem to ignore it completely.
9) Swapping occupation - My vassals are very well fed.
10) Designating as marches - I used this once, very early—my first move was to make a march of Munster, and they served as my primary military force for a good 50 or 60 years. I'm not sure how much more effective they were for being a march.

Only if you have cores on them already. Otherwise I think they get claims.

I thought you can only give client states cored provinces to begin with. if not, I can see client states being much more useful.

Thus far, it seems like I overlooked the usefulness of vassal war assistance mode thingee, will definitely be using that more next game.

In my 72 hours of AoW time as Friesland and some Ottomans

1) Selling ships to someone - Did, to my vassals, very useful.
2) Creating a client state - Tried out of curiosity, didn't get much use out it.
3) Setting a vassal's war assistance mode - USED A LOT
4) DoW in support for rebels - Used twice, great, really.
5) Sortie from sieges - Used once, it was surprisingly helpful
6) Mothballing fleets - English channel is so good, I earned the Grand Armada achievement, paying every single ship while way above in green. So, no, I didn't ever need it.
7) Army template - Of course, I wish if it did have an easy 'cancel all' function
8) Province siege objective for allies - Once, noticed how little they cared, stopped using it.
9) Swapping occupation - From time to time, But for the most of the time, I was in my wars, not in my "allies' " wars.
10) Designating as marches - Once, to Georgia, to compensate for their pesky coring cost.

1) Selling ships to someone - Yes, works great, especially with CNs
2) Creating a client state - Yes, though I modded it to use from start
3) Setting a vassal's war assistance mode - Don't use this much but I can see how it can be helpful in some situations
4) DoW in support for rebels - Haven't used it yet, but haven't really tried
5) Sortie from sieges - No, I think this is mostly for MP
6) Mothballing fleets - Never, but I've mostly been playing England - no need to and if I did would be dangerous
7) Army template - Never
8) Province siege objective for allies - Haven't tried this much
9) Swapping occupation - Always
10) Designating as marches - Often

So far, I've only used this to speed up the progress of some Orthodox rebels so they could convert me faster. I can see it being handy though, especially on high fort level

Haha! I hadn't thought of this. Seems like that alone could make it handy for starts wanting to switch religion/gov't or just trying different things. Great thinking!

1) Selling ships to someone - Never
2) Creating a client state - Not yet*
3) Setting a vassal's war assistance mode - Never
4) DoW in support for rebels - Never. Fabricating only takes a year, and rebels usually take far longer
5) Sortie from sieges - Sometimes early on, it's nice for starting battles so your reinforcements will get "defender" status.
6) Mothballing fleets - Never, but I've been playing in inland seas.
7) Army template - All the freaking time.
8) Province siege objective for allies - Rarely, they never seem to give it any heed
9) Swapping occupation - Frequently, but only for my vassals
10) Designating as marches - Never

*I've considered using the client states recently, since once you start building up Administrative Efficiency, overextension tends to vastly outstrip warscore (like, 99% warscore = 250% OE level). Has anyone else tried client states as a mechanism to get around it? How does it compare to vassal feeding?

Could someone please explain what your interest in transfering occupation to another warleader is? Because it will only make that person stronger and not give anything back to you. Allk of the examples showed so far in streams and such too have only been in the complete disfaviour of the one doing it. The AI seems to do it and tht is convenient for the player, but otherwise I do not see the need to use it. Marches are quite bad for the player too.

1) Selling ships to someone - never
2) Creating a client state - used it once. Bugged out and made all of the rebels have the same flag as the client state
3) Setting a vassal's war assistance mode - Don't think it actually does anything honestly
4) DoW in support for rebels - never
5) Sortie from sieges - never
6) Mothballing fleets - used it once. Meh
7) Army template - always
8) Province siege objective for allies - pretty sure it doesn't actually do anything
9) Swapping occupation - always
10) Designating as marches - always like to have at least one
Bonus) Auto ship transport thing - completely broken 90% of the time. When it actually works it leaves my ships in the middle of the ocean and my armies split into several pieces which I have to merge manually anyway. Spend more time trying to figure out precise multiples of troops and transports for which it would actually work than if I were to just do it manually

It's for people who play the game for purposes other than minmaxing the whole thing because becoming stupidly powerful is easy enough anyway

I was in a war with country C with my Vassal country B. I was about to annex my Vassal so I transferred a couple of provinces from country C to Vassal B so I'd avoid AE. It's like vassal feeding but missing out a couple of steps. I won the War, I got War goal province ( low AE) Vassal got 2 non war goal provinces (no AE for me) I later annexed Vassal B so essentially I got 3 provinces out of the War with no coalition.

Ok, so vassal feeding without AE is what it is used for.

Whether it's intentional or not it seems to work that way. Plus it frees you to siege whatever you like and divide it up as you see fit. Allies will automatically occupy provinces in your name now so essentially it was a way of getting round those awkward situations where your ally ninja'd your wargoal and you couldn't claim it in the peace deal as happened often in earlier games. Plus you get positive relations for giving countries provinces.
You can also create tension between potential future rivals by giving provinces away to countries with neighbours that have claims on those provinces thus possibly provoking future wars that you can exploit.

Not yet, but I guess it can be useful in some cases.
2) Creating a client state - Never use
Not yet either. Usually I'd rather annex anyway. Is there is a way to revoke a client state status to make it a vassal, as for the marches?
3) Setting a vassal's war assistance mode - Never use
Sometimes, but I guess it works only as a weight for vassal decisions; doesn't help them too much to do really stupid decisions then.
4) DoW in support for rebels - Never use
Not yet.
5) Sortie from sieges - Never use
Never so far, I guess I'm gonna avoid it anyway, the price is quite high.
6) Mothballing fleets - Always
I definitely use that very often! The achievement of 500 heavies suddenly becomes quite easy (but it's still long and annoying :p )
7) Army template - Always
Useful
8) Province siege objective for allies - Often
Same as above considering vassals.
9) Swapping occupation - Always
That's really overpowered if you ask me. Maybe we shouldn't be able to swap occupation to vassals?
10) Designating as marches - Often
I love marches! I've put Styria as a marche, they mustered 50K troups with less than 60 base taxes, ready to kill the Austrian :)
