My nephew wanted Megacorp for Christmas. The fact that I've had to help him roll back to a previous version of the game, that doesn't let him enjoy his present, has not been the fun I'd hoped for him this morning.

Merry Christmas.

Why did you make him roll it back? Or, why did he ask to roll it back?

Here's how I play "Stellaris" and get it to work for me:
  1. Close every other running program and stop any antivirus scans, etc.
  2. Turn all "Stellaris" graphics to their lowest settings
  3. Do not have more than the 1.5X setting for habitable worlds (I play lower than that)
  4. Open Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DELETE) and go to Processes
  5. Set the Priority for "STELLARIS.EXE" to High
This works for me every time. I have four gigabytes of RAM.

You just have to live with the fact that AI will never be the challenge people want it to be. Paradox will never spend the time and resources to get an AI that is this great. With the amount of changes that most Paradox games goes through over the years their AI can never become more than mediocre at best. This is the trade off for games that evolve in the way that paradox games do.

People keep mentioning glavius, if one dude can give the AI a semblance of functionality within 72 hours of a major game overhaul, then I have serious trouble understanding why you think there is a trade-off to be had here.

The trouble understanding becomes compounded when people act like it is an acceptable trade off.

No. It was like that: you bought car from some company. It was good car. Then they gave you upgraded version of that car for free, without taking old one away.
Also, I believe not properly working brakes are bigger issue that not properly working video game.

People paid for Megacorp, it was not given for free.
