We only have the 8 right now. That someone ran five games completely "hands off" and got that result has to concern you, right?

Nope, I'm not concerned. If you flipped a coin and it came up heads five times in a row in an isolated test, would you be concerned?

No it ran something like this, we weren't getting an ACW at all. So we lowered the bar and upped the POP issue script effects. The net effect was we ended up with an ACW, but it kept happening early. We are now back tonning things down again so it falls in a more historical range.

Thanks. That makes it sound like something that will end up working just fine when those adjustments are complete.

Why would early ACW be such a problem? At the end of the day it supposed to be sanbox game. Therefore date of the ACW (or even if ACW will happen) should depend on decision you and others are making. Not on the historiccal date.

Nobody has argued that it should happen on the historical date. We are arguing (or at least I am) that if it always happens in 1849 that's just as bad as it always happening on the historical date.

id rather have the expansion cover a period, like the interbellum
rather than just on one country
thats more a DLC scenario

Fine for me. DLC scenarios is a good idea (not just for V2, I'm thinking specially on HoI3).

But as ACW is one of the best marketing chances for the game, I suppose it'll be unavoidable ACW to become the main feature of the first expansion. I expect however devs to make a broader approach, and work more on civil war/rebel/revolutions system, specially in its political long-term consequences. Relating social, political and cultural issues.

Because there are some ideological issues which become specially reluctants for change... (and ACW is a good example of those things). Maybe it could be possible the 'national value' issue at culture/nationality level... And maybe it would be possible either making it a more playable issue.

Our decision to do one scenario had nothing to do with DLCs. Considering Victoria 1's high quality sales numbers we weren't sure if we would actually sell enough to make putting DLC economically viable. We decided on one scenario only because it made it easier to balance. Trust me on this one, I went through the POP files to tweak down the numbers of Clergy to stop countries going bankrupt paying for them and I was glad I had to do it for one scenario only.

While this is certainly true, devs already said, that the early ACW is present, so this time it is not pure coincidence ;)

Oh and this game is clearly about Austria loosing to Bohemian rebels and creation of new GP in the heart of Europe :p

EDIT: Hey, I just realized something. The demo is 15 years long, so it ends in 1851. This means we will get ACW in the demo :D

I think that you all are missing one point here and that is that the ACW should always fire if the player is not actively involved. By the start date it was inevitable that it would happen period. So I don't mind if it happens early, while I agree with the devs decision that if it didn't happen it would be completely wrong.

Why is everyone so obsessed with ACW in a game that revolves around Austria?

Why are you always so obsessed about Austria?

And to answer your question: because the ACW is the most interesting event in human history......:p

I always thought the game revolves around the possibillity of a second golden age for the Netherlands...

its quite clear from the title that this game is about the british colonial expansion into the west coast of canada, the interior of east africa and south australia

but on the topic, of how the ACW works
which states if any, have to be in the CSA everytime?
or is it all fluid

Russia's rise to true power.. That is what the game is all about! :D

The Empire is made of win, unbeatable in flavor and diversity, plus every major event revolves around it.

Quit talking nonsense, all of you, the game is about Germany and its unification

:p

You are very much mistaken, sir. The game is about UK not allowing Germans to unify :p

NO!
NO!
NO!
NO!
NO!
ALL THE FUNNY SPAM!!! I WANT TO LAUGH BUT I KNOW ITS SPAM!!!! AND ALL THIS FROM MY COMMENT LIKE A BAD EVENT CHAIN!!!!! ARGHHHH!!!!!!!

alright 2 things

to me it seems to me that 1861/1860 is a date not just for the ACW
a. Italy Has Just Unified, some fun AustriAAR's There
b. tension is building in germany between Germany and Austria
c. Japan has been awoken by the US and modernity is quite appealing to them
d. Siam has Civilized and now must resist france and Britain
e. Tensions are building in south america as a ridiculously militarized paraguay prepares to invade its neighbors in a desperate gambit to become a major power
f. The American Civil War as previously mentioned
g. Take over the ottoman empire on one of its few recoveries after the crimean war and lead your armies to the gates of vienna once more (a.k.a be an ottomaniac):D
h. Take over another german state and try to stem the tide of prussia and remake germany in your own Image
i. restore Spain to its former Status as a great world power
j. Civilize The Empire of Ethiopia and shock the world by defeating europeans in open battle
k. as Mongkut of Siam would say 'Etcetera, Etcetera......'

And Are The Sprites in this game done in the Format of EU3 Sprites or HOI Sprites? EU3's are easy to mod but HOI3 are more difficult

and by the way, Singleton Mosby, remember, it is the War For Southern Independence, not the 'American Civil War' the latter is a invented yankee term that unfortunautly is used by the rest of the world as well

and it is the battle of Sharpsburg not Antiedam

with that I say Goodbye and I'll just go, well, do whatever southerners are supposed to do when waiting for a swedish video game......................maybe ill thake a page out of RELee's advice and sit on a front porch in a confederate uniform with a corn cob pipe............

If there is a problem with the event, I'm sure P'dox will fix it fairly soon.

After all, it is one of the biggest events of the first half of the game. Not fixing it would be a bit of a middle finger to the fans; and of all game developers, P'dox is the least likely to middle finger its fans

Hah, I actually think this is rather amusing. We finally got rid of the evil rigid events and we got non-rigid, but always working the same, events in return :).

America was on the brink of civil war for decades, there was nothing special about 1861 that means the war couldn't have happened before then, it's just that that happens to have been the tipping point where all the previous compromises failed.

There's nothing at all wrong with the ACW consistantly happening at any point between 1840 and 1880 depending on how skillful the US player is.

e: I was under the impression the game was about five europeans with machine guns and their adventures in africa

ACW was suggested as the focus for the possible expansion. That was partly why I voted for another EU3 expansion. I guess I could get interested in playing a detailed game of the conflict although I would still prefer other things to be the focus for a first expansion.

You people are all wrong, the game is all about Denmark taking it's rightful place as the leading scandinavian nation.

(E.g. Denmark shall beat up Sweden and take their rightful land (norway) back.)

On topic: I really don't care when the ACW fires when the AI controls it, the earlier the better tbh, as it'll give USA more time to "heal" and become a threat.
If it's made more random in patches i'm fine with it, but as long as the player himself can postpone it to a more "historical" date, i don't really see the problem...

If the US doesn't invade Mexico, I can definitely see the South breaking off that early as Congress is inevitably going to be overrun with abolitionists as the rest of the Louisiana Purchase becomes states.
Actually it's the exact opposite.

The lid on slavery was pretty well capped until the Mexican territory was added. So I think a US that stays restricted to the 1836 borders should be less apt to splinter.
