:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Never seen that one. THX!

EDIT

Just think the analogy is quite useful, as one who has been in both industries. Software is still in 1902, really. It's somewhat paradoxical (woops!) - SW is, at one and the same time, a relatively new business, but also a mature one.

Fifty years from now, hardware will run most anything. Still love whathisname's comment about Java when it came out - "You can run your cellphone on Java. Can't run your cellphone on Windows."

@Bellisarious

I could be wrong, but I think you've never sold anything. You've never had to deal with an irate customer who is legimately upset about something and on the verge of walking out and refusing to take delivery.

See my post above - one day, in the dim future, a little child will ask, "What's a patch, Daddy?"

@ Merrivale

Gates was right, to a small degree. To a large degree, he was being smarmy and juvenile. He didn't have to invest the money involved in car manufacturing. Even back in 1947, when Hudson was announcing their new company, they stated they were investing over a billion dollars (1947 dollars). A reporter quipped, "Give the man one white chip."

Gates is brilliant, but at times jejeune.

Urm...mate...I work in the banking industry, specifically customer services for credit cards. I reckon I know more about dealing with angry customers than most people on this forum

Not addressed at me, but just to relate an experience...

I once had a customer state that he had multiple hand grenades in his vehicle and that he would return and use them if the product did not work exactly as he expected.

As I said to a friend, he would never make such a pompous statement in a gun store or else he'd have two dealers and probably a handful of customers drawing on him and telling him to kiss the floor.

That doesn't make it right and it certainly doesn't mean we have to accept it or condone it by buying their games the first day they are released, does it?

It doesn't, and I didn't. I'm not exactly sure when I'll pick up HoI3. Hard luck on newcomers, though, who probably don't know that they're signing up for a public beta.

There are limits to everything.

But please don't call me 'mate.' I find it condescending. Maybe I was a bit strong, but all I meant was that I find the analogy quite apt.

The game is hardly a flop, but it is very different from HoI2. I for one miss more flavor, and historically probably scenarios. But the engine definitely has the potential to make HoI3 one of the best PI games. Lets wait and see whether this potential is realised after some mods/expansions. It took two expansion packs to really make EU3 complete. And the game is hardly unplayable after they fixed the CG bug, it's decent fun.

While i don't think thats exactly fair to the customer, i do appreciate the massive support Paradox shows for its games. And when i consider the hours i will probably spend playing HoI3, the price is really insignificant.

Ok, I cought up with the threat

My solution is to look at PI confirmed release dates, and add about 9 months to that to when the actual game is coming out.

August 7th, 2009? Sweet, HOI3 will be out in April 2010! I can't wait!

Paradox makes good games... eventually.

Don't give them my(your) money until then, it just further encourages this behaviour.

If everyone did this though there would be no updates as no one would have the game. This happens with every game released and as games get more complex it will get worse not better, so I think it's time that you complainers get off the bus now to save you all further heart ache.

Yes, and Paradox would go under. And while I would mourn the demise of any company, making strategy games (there are too few allready), perhaps it would be a wakeup call for the ones left.

Nah, of course not, it would all be blamed on the pirates, because, as we all know, the company can never be wrong.

But haven't Paradox games always been like this on first release?

That doesn't make it right and it certainly doesn't mean we have to accept it or condone it by buying their games the first day they are released, does it?

If somebody always mistreats you, do you want to go along with business as usual?

People should let Paradox know how they feel by telling them to keep their game until it is truly fit to be delivered to the consumer and used by the consumer.

In its present state the game is not fit to be played. I would be embarrassed to have my name attached to what this game presently is.

It would be best if you didn't assume that everyone agrees with you. Saying "we", "everyone" and "people should" is not aplicable here since you are merelly giving your opinion.

Well, I happen to agree with Koevoet, so there are at least two, which makes the use of "we" and "us" appropriate!

Below is the quoted "Roadmap for 1.2".
As you can see, it is planned to be release late August. Lets be generous and say: 4 weeks after release.
Do you in all earnest argue, it wouldn´t have been better to wait those 4 weeks and release the game in this, 1.2 state?

Hi guys.

We're working on a 1.2 patch including fixing reported bugfixes and improving gameplay.

The goal is to have it released in late august, but may be first week of september.

Our goals includes.

- New autocontrols for sliders and trade agreements.
- Severe performance improvement.
- New mapmode for simplified terrain. (hoi2 style)
- Day&Night indications
- Cancellation of orders
- Revised Technology Setup for all scenarios.
- Improved Invasion & Theatre AI.

& of course, fixing reported bugs.

Not flop just a non-historical game!

along with one of the ugliest maps ever produced. This game is far from history. You want history. Your going to have too go else where. Ive given up on this series along time ago.:eek:o but, but.........I bought HOI3 and again p-uuuuu-wee(has for history). If you want a game with being able to take over the world with your allies, this is it. But is pure fantansy.

Well, I haven't been here in a long, long time but just found out HOI III was out so decided to see the forums for info.

Not surpisingly the game is not finished. With time one learns not to buy a Paradox product until at least a year after it's out. I learned with HOI I. I could see the game had great potential but I uninstalled it and waited a few months before reading the forums and reinstalling it. Heck, I didn't buy HOI II until Armageddon was out.

See you guys in one or two years after the expansion with hopefully most (although not all) bugs will be solved. I doesn't look like it will be a flop but you never know.

I still like their games, but the new releases are awful.

In the meantime, cheer up... but do remember how you feel now when their next release comes along.

Hi to everyone I used to interact with in the forum (OT Included). :)

I'm using a Core i7 Overclocked at 4Ghz with 6GB of RAM.
And my game does become really slow, even with my 8 logical cores.
I wonder why they didn't program this game with multithreat?
Could they do that in future patches?

I haven't checked this in a day, but to clarify - it's not a big issue, but it strikes my ear the same as if I were addresed as 'pal' or 'bub'.

And I don't need suggestions as to 'lightening up.' People who know me, even on these forums, will tell you that I have a very good sense of humor. I just don't care to be addressed as 'pal', 'bub', 'dude', or 'mate'.

'Nuff said, this ain't OT. People should respect how others wish to be addressed.

Let's stick to the thread topic, shall we?

EDIT - 'boobykins' was addressed to no one in particular. Yes, my tone is usually casual and context-driven.

Well, I happen to agree with Koevoet, so there are at least two, which makes the use of "we" and "us" appropriate!

You didn't quite understand the point. Most of the time when people feel like they are right about something they tend to make posts expressing their opinions but wording them like it was the opinion of everyone, or at least the vast majority. It makes it sound like anyone that disagree must be mad. What I was argueing here is that one shouldn't assume that everyone thinks the same.

Below is the quoted "Roadmap for 1.2".
As you can see, it is planned to be release late August. Lets be generous and say: 4 weeks after release.

Oh yes I do. You are assuming that all these issues would appear by themselves just from waiting a few more months. I'm sorry, but I really don't agree with this. The sooner it gets released the sooner thousands of people all with different machine specs and different points of view on the game start to tear it appart. The sooner that happens the sooner it gets patched, balanced and improved.

You could argue that it should have been more beta tested, that is a valid argument, although I still stand by my point of view that with a game this complex and with this kind of demanding community you are better off releasing sooner rather than later. Waiting forever untill your few beta testers pick up on things is just very inefficient.

Who else bets that this thread will be closed or removed for being critical of Paradox?

There has been a trend for companies on the Internet to censor comments criticizing their products or to only accept positive feedback. The product could be broken, problematic, or outright crap, but anyone pointing out that the Emperor's New Clothes are a sham is a troll.

Haha read this comment on page 1, and then saw that this thread has 44 pages! Haven't read any other post, other then them at page one, before posting this.
