You realize that EU3 was pretty bad..

People were screaming bloody murder on the Rome forum about that game.

I can probably say that EU2, EU1, Vicky all had the same things said on their forums.

This is the same thing that's happened since Paradox launched their first game. I'd love to see one of you Sods create a game from the ground up, with new graphics, new mechanics, a new AI system (or a borrowed one), make all the systems work 100% bug free, test the game to ensure there is 0 bugs, read the minds of all the players that will buy the game so that you can implement what every single one of them wants, then push back the release date so that you fine tune it all, then release it. I can guarantee you all the money in the world that there will be 1 thing, after all of that stuff you did, that one solitary player will find a bug that will bring along the doomsayer posts that say the game is dead and is crap.

Seriously, can any of you scrubs do any better? I challenge all of you nay sayers to create a game and do exactly what Paradox did then read the minds of all the players and make a 100% bug free 100% playable 100% what the players want (catering to all players). None of you can do that, and if you say you can, you are full of the brown excrement. Get over your jaded selves. No gaming company can live up to the players, because the players expectations are way over the top. There are sensible players, many in this thread, but just so many people that act like screaming banshee's for no reason.

I'm pretty sure no one said they wanted a perfect game on launch. But we sure as hell wanted a game that is playable (I can't play mine. Literally. Not just figuratively).

And the name calling isn't necessary. And no, I can't do what Paradox does because I don't go to college for a programming degree and don't get paid to make games. Could programmers at Paradox correctly quantify the Black Scholes model? Probably not.

Flop. After Rome and this pile of dung, I won't touch another PDox game ever again.

I see you play EU3+ expansions, that mean you are gonna uninstall it and never play it again? Same with Deus Vault? You'll be back when the posts start saying good things about the game, as will the rest of your brethren in that mob.

I´m enjoying the game already for all the wonderful features
( -realistic chain-of-command with kick-*ss AI Commanders,
-leadership system that makes for hard decisions,
-technology system with a lot of flair (after you get used to it),
-intelligence system that is actually useful and realistic,
-decisions and systems like neutrality/threat assessment AI that make the game historical while not straightjacketing anything (this one´s not working perfectly yet) )

I´m sure there will be a hotfix for the CG-bug very soon and lots of the other issues people are being dramatic about will get fixed eventually(i´m hoping for better performance/more historical AI soon))

Whats happening on the forums now is perfectly normal and happens with every paradox-release. It´s fun for a while to watch people dramatising every small and some genuine problems as if it were the end of the world. But it doesnt make the game a flop or anything, HoI3 could be the best game ever and it would still be the same. But it gets boring quite fast, so i guess i will go back to playing the game now :))

People hated HOI2, people hated EU3, people hated Rome, I don't go back far enough for the release of HOI, EU2, and Vicky, but I wouldn't be surprised if the reaction wasn't similar.

I go back that far, and yeah it's pretty much par for the course.

The wacky AI Behavior and interface stuff will be worked out, I have no doubt of that. HOI1 had HUGE issues along those lines and they all got worked out. Yes Paradox games 1.0 and 1.1 tend to have issues exactly like these. The bizzareness of the map is distracting and annoying, but not that big a deal from a playability standpoint. I support the final product so I make an informed choice to buy these games at release. I understand the frustration people feel, but I don't share it.

The only issue I am actually concerned about at this point is the slowness of the game, and that is a design decision, not a bug. 10,000 provinces? That complex of a chain of command for every nation? Well hopefully my fears are unfounded and patches will address every issue, and maybe I need to just upgrade my RAM.

I'm pretty sure crazy AI, a game breaking bug, and the game going slow as dirt (6-8 minutes for one month on fast speed) are not "small problems". Quit trying to trivialize the legitimate and real concerns of paying customers, just because you were lucky enough not to have any problems.

I've played the game quite a lot today, 36 to 40 as germany. And I'd say that even out of the box it's a fun game. I had to restart my computer once because a memory leak or something slowed the game to a crawl, but otherwise I've not had any technical problems. The threat increases a little to much and influencing is to strong so I'll be toning them down once I'm done with this play through, and the AI's a little weak like in all Paradox games, but there's been nothing game breaking about anything.

Tarsus, it's my point, no gaming company can create a game that is 100% bug free. None, and I challenge anyone to produce a game that's been out in the modern era that was 100% bug free at launch day for said game. I guarantee there isn't one.

I forget, because you've made a lot of posts :D (which I have read), what is the reason your game is unplayable? I'm being honest and asking an honest question.

I apologize if people get offended. I won't take what I said back, because I stand behind my own statements.

I'm sick to death of people proclaiming doom for a game that's been out for less than a day. 95% of all the posts are not constructive, and 90% of those are from people expecting things to be 100% bug free.

As i said, there are some genuine problems. Still i´m having fun (and i have ridiculously slow performance on my core2 9550, sometimes).

It is really sad that the HoI2 forums dont go back enough to still have all the ruckus from when that game first launched. It would put some things in perspective :).

The ridiculous AI, which isn't a physical barrier to playing the game but makes me almost not want to play it.

The GC bug which cripples many nations and breaks the game to the point where it isn't fun to play.

And then an actual technical issue where my game runs 1 month on max speed in 6-8 minutes. So it takes at least an hour to go from 1936-37 (who knows how long when the world is in 1940 and filled with units).

I played for about 6 hours today while writing an AAR at the same time. Started in 1936 and now am in October of 1940.
The general speed is slower, however due to the reduced micromanagement, the gameplay is actually faster.

I f*cking hated the research in HoI2. Every couple of minutes, pause, check tech date, find appropriate tech team. So much time wasted.
Or the manual placement of units. Ever built 60 subs? That's one hell of an annoying clickfest.

HoI3 is probably the best release version of the series and it has the best foundation. Future patches and especially mods will make this the best wargame of all-time.

I'm enjoying it. Slow and we know what needs fixing but when war hits I don't reckon I'll mind the slowness so much as I will need to micromanage a lot more than I ever did in HoI2.

I want some hotfixes for major probs either this weekend or early next week.

Who seriously expected a bug free pdox game anyway? I didn't, that isn't good at all btw, but unlike other companies I have faith in them being able to fix the issues shortly.

I'd be fairly satisfied if they simply fixed 2 things:

1. The Consumer Goods bug
2. The horrendously slow game speed.

I can deal with everything else until later patches but these two things have GOT to be fixed pronto.

This post i can agree with a 100%. But if you really want to be constructive, then dont dramatize things and keep your cool instead. It helps noone to go around screaming murder, it just antagonizes and makes constructive discussion impossible.

I think there is a memory leak, which is a common thing when games get released (sorry quoted the wrong post). I've noticed it with almost all newly launched games, which gets resolved pretty quick, I would expect that to be handled again in the next patch.

Memory leaks are tough to spot at first, but if you are starting the game, and it's running like normal, then slowing down dramatically, it's usually because of the memory leak I mentioned. It's not a problem from the player's computer, it's more from the game (something in the coding or programming or something like that is screwed up).

I hear you on the CG bug and the AI acting all crazy, but honestly those will be fixed probably sooner than later. I'd say 1.2 or 1.3 we'll see a kick ass HoI3. I think the game is pretty kick ass right now (even with the wackiness and bugs).

I've been pretty vocal and aggressive the last couple of hours, and I probably should scale that back . I'm blitzing all over the place.

Anyway, I share your concerns, but not as rabidly as you :p mostly because people have already aired it. I'm more pissed at the people proclaiming doom for a game that's pretty damn awesome that hasn't been out for more than a day. That's where I'm coming from at least, reading all those posts and threads from people that are not using their brains kind of makes one just like those non brain users.
