He doesn't have a single core processor though, he said he has a Core2, which has two cores. I'm pretty sure HoI3 just doesn't work well period.

no, i have duocore (dell studio laptop 2.6 mhz duo, 4g ram, 512m radeon card, vista) and HOI3 runs just fine on my machine

the only problem is slightly jerky map scrolling at highest speed, pretty much identical to EU3. but i am running as slower speeds as i learn and look around the awesome map, so no probs there.

My trusty laptop only manages 40s per day at highest speed in the demo, so I guess I will not be playing anytime soon.

No, because PI took the easy way out when they made the EU3 engine. Instead of making specific files for every country (like for every game before, notably HoI2) they basically merged as much of the AI controlled portions of the game into one generic file. By doing this they saved countless hours, but in the process they basically doomed any game based on this system because it means:

On this I have to disagree. In principle and considering country settings (and a sense of geographical location that AI still seems to lack), the approach on AI control Paradox introduced in EU3 is an improvement on the older system. The future may show that they were a bit early in the implementation, but -also looking at the nightmare of branching events in the previous engine- it is the way forward.
NB! this observation comes from someone who is of the opinion that CK(+DV) is the best game paradox ever created.

As much as I love paradox (I really do. The only game I really play anymore is EU3 complete) I always wait for the first patch before buying a game.

Paradox has an AMAZING customer support venue. Johan himself even quips in every now and again, I've never seen that on another forum

He doesn't have a single core processor though, he said he has a Core2, which has two cores.

Just for the record, you can disable >1 cores in BIOS.

Stardock (Frogboy). That's two. Don't we just wish there were more...

This is good news.

I'm waiting for my new duocore 2.53 mhz, 4g ram, 512 radeon, 7200 hs, 1033 bus running vista ultimate.

I'm hoping that does the trick.

I can't post threads so I'll say this here:

On Amazon.co.uk and Play.com, the release has been changed from 14/8/09 to 21/8/09. Does anyone know why the UK release has been delayed? Its bad enough the game doesn't work properly, know they have failed in release? =/ Makes me sad.

Stuff like this is about standard for a Paradox game release. Give it a little while.

They misspelled Youngstown Ohio, a city where a number of my relatives are from. This may not mean much to you, but to misspell a major industrial center/city in the Midwestern USA, it reeks of a rush job. It's not as though they couldn't have found a half-dozen fans in the USA willing to proofread their game and check their map, each spending 5-10 hours scanning over stuff, in exchange for a free copy of the game.

This game was rushed by at least two to three months.

In its present state, I wouldn't pay more than ten dollars for the game. I probably won't even attempt to play it again for at least three or four months, until they release adequate patches and third party mods are complete that address the issues.

Right now the game is about a 3/10 on my scale, maybe a 4/10 at best.

Even once it is "fixed" it will still have the ever-present problem that it is basically a Victoria version of HOI2. Paradox took HOI2 and turned it into Victoria.

Maybe, but probably not. This happens with every Paradox game--the first few months on the forum are filled with people saying the game is horrible and Paradox is dead to them. Sometimes this results in what I would consider an actual flop (gamewise anyway, Rome?), but usually not.

People hated HOI2, people hated EU3, people hated Rome, I don't go back far enough for the release of HOI, EU2, and Vicky, but I wouldn't be surprised if the reaction wasn't similar.

I never had any problems with HOI2 and I never hated it. Granted I began playing it probably 6-10 months after it first was released, and once I learned of the TRP I only played the TRP.

That's not because they misspelled the name of an American city no one know about that the game suck. All Paradox game are euro-centric (because that what their game are about), if you want to complain, complain about China.

So I will go to google and look where is Youngstown Ohio, that major industrial city.

Edit: for those like me who never hear about this city before, it's between Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

I actually like(d) Victoria. No, this isnt Vicky. This is more like EU3.

Sorry this is stupid and annoying.

Well i dont care what all of you happy faces say, I do enjoy relive the WW2 period like it happend. I hate see all of Scandinvia,Irland,Finland,USA,Switzerland,Netherlands,Belgium,Luxemburg,
Romania,Republican Spain, and Poland. In the allies before 1938 end. That's just stupid and game breaker. And just to counter all those blind paradox fans, yes i did used diplomacy, and yes i did use spies to raise the threat of allies, and yes i did influanced, and yes i didnt raised my threat by DoW every country in europe...i waited for the right time to not raise my threat. it's the mide 1939 and all the world is at war with me. I specificly invited Italy and japan after 1939 so that their aggresive actions wont effect me.

Iam sorry but this is not how it supposed to be. I am one of those people who do want a historical game...iam one of those people who hate the ahistorical attitude that paradox took seince the EU3. And yes i did liked and ejoyed the static script events that took place in HOI2.

well the tech system if u let the AI control it is responsive to youre combat focus ( as a test as australia i produced only strategic bombers and fighters) as everyone had joined the allies but germany was taking over large areas of the world.

And after a year or so my tech reserach was focusing on everything air bombing ( and it was much more rapid because i had the production and the combat training to give the bonus modifier to those areas i had sepcialised in)

Johan or someone will probably put this in the appropiate thread eventually, but my review just went up at strategy informer: http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/heartsofiron3/review.html

I gave it an 8.5, however the way our system works is to aggregate scores from the users as well, so the number you're most likely to spot is the overall score, which is 9.4. Personally I don't think it deserves that, but the users have spoken.

Hmmm. I don't know then. I just find it very odd that all the sites changed the date together, if it was just one it could be a shipment delivery delay. I can't imagine that now. I thought Amazon would have the game in by now. Maybe I will have to get it from Game. Where abouts in Britain do you live, if you don't mind me asking?

9.4 sounds excessive.
