Hello,

Do vassals auto build improvements? I did notice AI auto build (well naturally), I do believe i notice my vassals auto build if they own a county/duchy, but i didn't seem to notice them building anything if they are vassal under my county (mayors etc.) Then again im not far into the game so can't be sure, but still want to know if i can focus on improving my own holdings or do i have to improve my vassal ones as well? (improving holdings that just give you 1/4 of theyr income is just sad)

They do, if they have the money. As they don't have much income in the first place, that may not happen for lowly barons if you regularly go to war and raise their levies.

They do. But not regularely/

Castles get improved most of all, but towns and churches rarely. I think it;s because mayors and bishops save up money by the hundreds without buying anything. Then they die, their children inherit the money, but someone else may be elected mayor/chosen bishop instead, who has to start from 0 gold, and the whole thing seems to repeat.

It would be nice if they used their fortunes to build more. As it is now, there is very little incentive for the liege to build up his vassal holdings for them since you only get a small fraction of the benefit (as opposed to building up your direct holdings).

Yeah but you would think that as you build up your realm and have more troops available you might not raise them all so your vassals have their money to themselves

I'm not sure if it's a matter of income or what but I've taken to building things like villages/palisades for them to get their income up a bit so they can afford to build more. It seems to have worked in at least one instance.

yeah i did the same to let them generate money hoping that they will build other improvements, but as for now my bishops have around 200 gold and aren't biulding anything, will keep an eye out if they will.

Edit. Eventualy tried :ninja: my way for an answer. sent 300 gold to one of my mayors and he did start to build. So I guess they do build.
Here's hoping it was not just because it was "my" money they used.

They build, i'm sure of it, my basic strategy in game no matter what lord that i play, capture venezia, not created the duchy title, and fill it with city, let the mayor build their own improvement. After 200 years my city got plenty building in it. Venezia usually the most profitable demesne that i have, equal with 20-35% of my total income (7-9 demesne total)

Maybe, but I have seen mayors die with more than 300 gold, while the city itself has 0 improvements.

It does seem lame that the mayor's family is essentially robbing the city treasury when they die. I think it would be better if the treasury for elected and appointed titles passed to the new holder of the title instead of just being wiped from existence.

Yes but that small fraction has been built into the game for economic balance and fairness. You can't build everything in your castle province to gain all the benefits, you must and should build up your baronies as well. It's also why you have steward jobs that go around collecting that extra 35% tax and research techs that also increase that income from barionies and the tax laws to adjust how much they pay you. I tend to go for the LARGE taxation laws myself even on the nobles....let em all eat cake. ;)

Also, some of you guys are too GREEDY and want everything to come to you the way YOU want it. It's not that way in real life as plenty of people have sat on their wealth their whole lives and left it to noone or even buried it in their backyards or on treasure islands. ;) I only expect what is due to me by my taxation levels and my own skills of planning and doling out titles etc. Gawd we're humans we are going to make more money than we need anyways, well most of us that are smart an intelligent. ;)

Is it my mayors and bishops building things in my personal demesne? Sometimes I save up for some improvements but there's already construction going on that was unbeknownst to me.

They do it, but it seems relatively rare.

I guess it's more rare if you're bleeding them dry with constant warring, but so far I've had pretty good luck with my realm being upgraded while I just sit on a pile of loot. (Playing as Croatia - the equivalent of Belgium in Vicky 2.)
