Ok, my fellow ahistorical players, just a simple strawpoll/data gathering exercise: have you ever seen the Greek AI go Monarchist/Metaxist without being guided (either by turning on Historical AI Focuses or setting a game rule for Greece)? In every one of my non-historical games since BftB, Greece has gone with the Venizelists. Admittedly, this isn't a large sample size so hopefully we can get some more data here.
When the Greek focus tree was first previewed, I expressed concern about the way the election was handled, namely that it is a wholly unnecessary complication that adds a mission and decision to what could easily just be an event or even just abstracted through the focus tree. While this objection was mostly on aesthetic grounds, with some vague concerns that it could also be opaque from a gameplay standpoint, if it is indeed the case that the AI will always arrest the king unless specifically scripted not to (e.g. Historical mode is on) then there is a much more practical impact as well. Decisions, especially free decisions like this, are extremely hard to weight correctly for the AI and I strongly suspect that the Greek AI is simply incapable of allowing the Monarchists to win if left to its own devices.
If anyone has a counterexample, especially with recorded evidence, of Greece going Monarchist without being forced, that would be immensely helpful. Otherwise I strongly recommend that the whole Greek election of 1936 be reworked so it's just an event where the player chooses who wins, rather than this nonsense of having to press a button before the fact.
