Yes indeed, I currently have the easiest run as Brandenburg ever (well, in 2008 I guess in EUIII, that one was quite easy too..), due to an AI which interpretes certain facts a bit.. weird.
Besides, although I planned to go tall instead of wide for this run, this games is so full of opportunities that I just HAD to expand :D and it is fun and I am double the size 1476 than 1444 and on par with tech.
Yeha I know that feeling I started as holland thinking I'd just unite the neatherland and then go tall, but 20 years in I now own all of the neatherland except frisia (damn free cities), and have most of belgium conquered or vassalised.
France isn't living up to it's usual potential it hasn't even taken back its cores from england (though burgindy nabbed them) while england is focused on their own internal problems. the only one blobbing is denmark who have annexed half of swedens territory in indapendence wars and austria who formed a union with hungary in the first couple of years and now spend their time vassalising and annexing imperial OPMs (but that's historical)

Because no matter how long you spend doing that, something gets through the net.

Seriously. It is probably the case that more games of EU4 1.12 have been started by customers in the past two days than were started by Paradox staff in the entire development cycle.
More games have probably been started by consumers in the last two days than has been started in playtesting since they started on EU4 itself. And I don't mean that in a "they should playtest more" sense but in a sense of the sheer scale of the playerbase compared to the dev team and even the playtesters.

I do agree that rebels converting provinces when they spawn and nationalists adding nationalism like POOF is a bit weird.

Does paradox excpet us to build forts that cover the entire nation, to avoid eternal nationalism in provinces?

edit: would be acceptable maybne, if you can lower maintenance on forts individually.. But you can't right?

If it was my job to play EU4, I'm sure I could find the time to cram in about 5000 hours. Unfortunately, we're a few years off of a grand strategy game based economy.

OP is wrong in a lot of things, but I do think #3 is worth taking a look at. I see the AI declare a lot of baffling wars. It's one reason I'm very reluctant to accept many allies, because I'm tired of being asked to join ridiculously stupid offensive wars (wish you could make defensive pacts instead).

The current alliance system is stupid and unhistorical. Open ended offensive alliances are pretty much non-existent in the real world. Offensive alliances are negotiated in secret for specific objectives. A public alliance for mutual defense makes sense; one that says "You attack anyone you like and I'll back you up" does not.

I do agree that rebels converting provinces when they spawn and nationalists adding nationalism like POOF is a bit weird.

Does paradox excpet us to build forts that cover the entire nation, to avoid eternal nationalism in provinces?

edit: would be acceptable maybne, if you can lower maintenance on forts individually.. But you can't right?

You can do that. If you click on a province with a fort, there's a checkbox in the province view you can use to mothball or reactivate forts.

I have about 2500 hours on EU4 and everytime a DLC comes out I'm just one of those mindless customers that'll buy it and then never ever question it. I have offered suggestions for new things to add which were all ignored but I guess they can't read every single post that everyone makes.

Still, I don't know about anyone else but I quite like reading complaint threads especially ones where a dev replies because it always makes me laugh. I have yet to see one of these threads were an OP has more likes than dislikes. I come here just for a good show!

At the end of the day EU4 is a great game, possibly my favourite of all time so far. But I would never have gotten to 2500 hours if there was no modding community. Some mods out there make this game the best I've played. I only have something like 5 achievements from the "before" time
