First of all, I have 1100 hours in this game, so I know where I'm stepping.

I have already spent a small fortune purchasing every single Crusader Kings 2 and Europa Universalis IV DLC there is. I just can't understand why all of those hadn't been already included in the initial release or even as free patches. Paradox is really getting on my nerves with these incredibly overpriced "expansions". They add a few stuff to the game, but it still "feels" the same. And why the hell isn't the "content pack" included in the main DLC purchase anyway?

Common Sense just made EU4 static.

1. Coring provinces is extremely expensive. The new development system just made it virtually impossible to expand. Claims now only give you a 10% reduction. World Conquer, Jihad, Rajput Reich and Norwegian Wood achievements now seem undoable.

2. Fort system. It started out as a good idea: not all of your provinces will start out with forts, so you have to build them (for a hefty 200g) and it has a monthly maintenance cost. Provinces that don't have forts will be rendered occupied within a month of siege. Forts lock opponent movement, so it's harder to plan ahead (conserving manpower, joining a battle). Supply limits are troublesome.

Rebels are also a problem. If you get 15 unrest for nationalism (it's now called separatism), as soon as they spawn, they will almost instantly occupy the province and give you a further 10 years. Reactionaries will slow westernization within a glimpse and Religious Zealots can possibly convert half your country if your troops are just too far away.

3. Suicidal AI? Started as France to get a "feel" of the DLC and, even though allied to half of Europe, Burgundy insisted on attacking me solo.

4. Development system. Those weak, poor provinces can now be upgraded into something more robust. You have to spend Monarch Points to do so, but it's so extremely expensive, it's almost unworthy. Spending 100 Administrative Points for +1 base tax is just unreal. Also, you'd have to save all of those for coring.

To me, the whole point of playing an One Province Minor (OPM) is expanding and conquering. Why on Earth would I just sit around trying to upgrade my capital?

And I could just go on...

I really feel like I should have every single DLC on when I play EU4, as I love the game. But this one just felt awful.

Do YOU even read the forums?

Literally every single point you've made has already been discussed (at length) over the last couple of days on here, and/or is in the process of being discussed.

If you don't care about the appearance of units/use your own music it makes the DLC cheaper.

virtually impossible to expand.

You can expand, you just get hit with rebels and coalitions for your presumption.

To me, it feels like the game has taken a number of bold steps, which I approve of in general, but there are clearly a number of issues left which need to be fixed or more properly scaled or balanced.

I mean, just yesterday I was playing as Portugal, I had Ceuta, Tangiers, Gharb and one more province in Morocco. All wrong culture, wrong religion, pain in the butt. In hindsight, maybe I should not have bothered with them, but I like going for Tafilalt and I dislike exclaves.

Anyway, I'm looking at my charts and stupid Moroccans only give 19% basetax so they're not accepted which is also -2% conversion and they keep acting up and...

*lightbulb*

Spend some admin, raise their base tax.

*poof* Culture accepted!!!

So it has some very good ideas in it, but I have to agree that it makes no sense whatsoever that a rebel army can convert a province in a single month when it takes me years. So the effects of rebels sieging down a province need to be re-evaluated.

It's pretty fun once you start modding down the ludicrous coring/annexing/development MP sinks. Still messing around with numbers to find a sweet spot that feels more reasonable.

I for one really like the new fort system the expansion brought, even if it's glitchy right now it's added a much needed strategic element to EU4.

As for the suicidal AI well.. not every ruler was wise.

I think you and I are playing different games my friend. I fail to connect FUN and EUIV Common Sense together.
Wait, You mean You don't like siting and looking anguisly sking "when will this number finally hit x"? It's like a movie, just with numbers.
Although, if You wanted a game, something interactive... Yeah, 1.12 isn't propably right for You.

While some of your points are valid - the penalties from rebels occupying a province seem pretty harsh now - I think mostly the changes in the patch/dlc have been for the better. Having to plan ahead, how your support stacks reach your siege stack, in my opinion adds strategic depth, just need to get ahead of the learning curve and teamwork with the ai is iffy. The suicidal ai is annoying, but that's the price you have to pay for it to be continually improved. When you keep fiddling with something you get a few bad builds in between, but hopefully you get a better ai in the middle term.

OP is wrong in a lot of things, but I do think #3 is worth taking a look at. I see the AI declare a lot of baffling wars. It's one reason I'm very reluctant to accept many allies, because I'm tired of being asked to join ridiculously stupid offensive wars (wish you could make defensive pacts instead).

Well, I've clocked about 1100 hours too according to steam and I think common sense is a huge upgrade.

The new fort system adds a much needed strategic depth to the combat, making it more likely you'll win against big nations when being smaller. The development makes you able to actually become stronger without having to attack all the time or wait for enemy weakness, especially during times when you are surrounded by strategical alliances. It's also nice adding some depth to the vassals and having greater control of them and making theocracys much better. On top of that you are also much more likely to survive as a OPM. I've actually seen freaking AI Albania being able to expand now.

Sure, the increase coring cost is a bit annoying, and sure, the increased time for diplo annex is too, but in the end i think it's for the better. Then again, I've never gone for these world conquest runs so maybe i'm not as affected as those that enjoys doing those. Personally I'm just happy being able to have fun games with small nations without having to resort to doing game-y stuff as i personally don't enjoy using exploits to win.

Yea it's fun playing as muscovy and having Sunni religious zealots convert half your nation by the time your army can arrive to destroy them.
Standard revolt progression is, while not perfectly deterministic, attached to sufficient information that if your troops are badly out of position, it's usually your fault...
Rebels take some time to spawn and you know which location they will spawn at and how close they are about to spawn so why do you have your army so out of place?
... but on the other hand, event rebels are still a thing.
