I do live in Britain remember-one McDonald's minimum per small town these days.

Overpriced, lukewarm, often cardboardy burgers, the taste of which they're trying to hide with an overabundance of onion, lettuce etc. You can get better burgers from a street trader (I know, I do!:D)

Still, the milkshakes are rather nice, though, I will admit.:)

Oh yeah, I forget Britain (England? UK? Great Britain?) and the US are so similar. My cousin is a Londoner and she found us Americans quite unpleasant ( Hurumph! Imagine locals asking her about her crazy accent! :D ).
Hmmm.... you like the Milkshakes... I am beginning to think that you do not get the American version of McDonald's Milkshakes...and that maybe your hamburgers are not the same juicy warm ones as ours... though the McDonalds in India and Singapore got everything else the same (minus the beef in India of course- substitute goat!).

ANYWYAS... back to topic: Is McDonalds in the UK evidence of their loss of Empire? If they had the strength to defend their borders..could Ronald McDonald penetrated? :p

Although McDonald sells dried vomit it's still better than the British cuisine. Apart from its quality the rise of McDonalds food is certainly helped by the rise of the American empire. I therefore predict a growing popularity of Chinese food in the next decennia.

There's a theory that Ronald is the anti-christ and can cross borders with impunity. I actually read this on the web somewhere.

If popularity of cusine were an indicator of the power of empire, Texas would be already split up between China and Mexico.
And of course the UK would be an Indian colony.:D

Power for a country promotes the popularity of its cuisine. This doesn't mean that a popular cuisine indicates the country it came from is powerful...it can be caused by other factors like the tastiness of the Indian cuisine compared to the British and the colonial past.

I don't think it can grow in popularity around here, they're already everywhere. Maybe China has reversed your theory and is trying to reach empire through the kitchen.
Chinese restaraunts are second only to pizza places in a lot of cities. Good, too, though like most transplanted cusines, they aren't a whole lot like the original.

Hmmmm... I like the UK being a vassal of Bangladesh theory! Of course the recent riots in england show that perhaps they are feeling rapid change?

BTW: Wot's this I hear about deep-fried choclate bars in the UK? MAybe it is just in Scotland, a scotsman was telling me about it.
