I haven't seen anything new. The Aztec invasion I've witnessed has the British Isles, Iceland, Scandinavia and most of Germany. They're quite successful but I haven't seen any new events (Other than the usual event about smallpox drifting to the Americas) or plagues related to them.

If there's something cool and new I'll love to hear it!

I do think it would be quite interesting if the invaders were more susceptible to old world disease or something though.

I wish they brought tropical disease, like Dengue fever or something.
I know the mosquito isn't very fond of European climate but still...

They bring syphilis

Don't they bring Syphilis after they spawn?

True enough but that's always been a thing. I think the OP is wondering if the Aztec Disease or anything related can 'break out' with the new Reaper's Due mechanics.

Heck I've even seen the "Dancing Fever" for the first and only time, that was a new one to me, but nothing Aztec related.

Although I own Sunset Invasion and have played with it on I have never played late enough for it to fire, so I don't know how they decided to implement the Aztec invasion. Did they simply say "the Aztecs got open sea navigation first", or did they say "the Aztecs developed civilization and animal husbandry before Europe"? In the first case they would show up with their RL lack of resistance to diseases such as smallpox and measles, in the second case it was THEM who developed a tolerance (if not immunity) to these diseases thus leading the way for Europe to be devastated by the invader's afflictions.

This would be great to add as a toggle - I would LOVE to see Europe obliterated by a simultaneous Aztec invasion and super-plague, with lots of Aztec-Euro fusion cultures rising from the ashes . . .

They are meant to bring something called "The Aztec Disease", but as far as I can tell it never fires and is probably bugged, just like the Aztec sacrifice mechanic. Although saying that, I haven't seen them invade Europe yet, maybe I should do a test game and see if any of that's been fixed for Reapers Due.

The story is that they reversed engineered a viking longship which spurred an age of exploration. It's a neat expansion and now with Reaper's Due, you can set them to randomly show up (in my current game, they arrived in the 9th century.)

So technically the Aztecs can come, with the boat knowledge brought by a viking longship, even before the Viking Age started ?
That would be glorious

But the disease thing should work both ways, right? The doomstack should also fall prey to all of the lovely diseases of Europe as well.

But the disease thing should work both ways, right? The doomstack should also fall prey to all of the lovely diseases of Europe as well.

When the Europeans conquered the Americas they indirectly caused tens of millions of deaths due to introduced diseases, mostly from smallpox but also from other illnesses such as measles, pertussis etc. In return the Aztecs gave Europe the modern version of syphilis which as one writer above noted caused around one million deaths over a single century, ie around 10,000 per year for 100 years. The comparison in deaths exchanged is thus not even in the same ballpark.

The fact is that Europeans had had around 7,000 years of living in close contact with animals such as chickens, sheep and cattle which incubated or carried all manner of illness (eg influenza, cowpox etc), but which also helped them build up an immunity. The converse advantage was much more limited - native Americans (at least in the Caribbean and northern South America) had gained a limited immunity to malaria, a disease which affected Europeans heavily.

The bottom line is that disease exchange DID work both ways, but Europeans' extensive contact with disease carrying livestock had given them a tremendous advantage in acquired and genetic immunity which the native Americans just did not have - the only way to get around this is to assume an alternative history in which the Aztecs developed animal husbandry first (eg by domesticating some sort of variants of buffalo, alpaca and llama) while the Europeans did not.

Unless of course you like your fantasy to be clean and simple in which case - yeah, Aztecs bring disease, Europeans suffer form them because reasons. IMHO this should be entirely up to player choice.
